Gym Leaders in Shin'ou

Hyouta (Rock-type) - Coal Badge
Natane (Grass-type) - Forest Badge
Somomo (Fighting-type) - Cobal Badge
Makishi (Water-type) - Fen Badge
Merissa (Ghost-type) - Relic Badge
Tougan (Steel-type) - Mine Badge
Suzuna (Ice-type) - Glacia Badge
Denji (Electric-type) - Beacon Badge

Makishi has been confirmed on seribii.net to be a Water-type gym leader, not a Flying-type.
Merissa has been confirmed too to be a Ghost-type gym leader, not Posion-type.
Tougan is a Steel-type gym leader, not Ground-type.
I think that with Makishi being a water type gym leader, his badge name is supposed to be the Fin badge.

So Hyouta is not a Ground-type then?Nauto 05:37, 1 October 2006 (UTC)

New Rivals in DP

There are two rivals in Pokemon DP, which are mentioned in serebii.net. One will choose the starter that is stronger than you and vice versa. The second rival resembles Wally in Pokemon RSE. Steelz 06:20, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

My reasoning for removing the New Pokémon section

Though I was the one to introduce it, I believe it is time for it to be removed. It's hard to explain, but I'm sure it's understandable already. It's just not very relevant to list when each and every Pokémon was revealed. In our other Pokémon game articles, such history is not denoted because it isn't very important. Even though Diamond and Pearl are new games, when will there be too many introduced Pokémon to list in the article. That's why I'm going to instead summarize it. Coltonblue 20:56, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

As we approach the release of these new titles and the inevitable transition from an article documenting a current event where something like detailing every new Pokémon is a viable and important aspect of coverage to an encyclopedic article where listing of large quantities of specific entities is generally unnecessary article fluff, I think that removing that section is a must. (Just as removing the returning Pokémon section was) The list of Pokémon due to be added in this incarnation is simply too extensive for this article's purposes and its inclusion is rather pointless in lieu of the standards established in similar articles related to previous generation games. For the record, I'm in agreement with you over the removal of the list from this particular page. A concise summary sounds good to me - Precision is definitely something that this article lacks at the present. Charles M. Reed 21:19, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

I say go for it...my only concern is people adding it back after you clean it up. -Sukecchi 21:23, 16 September 2006 (UTC)
The above person was correct in their concern, as evidenced by that just happening. I'm reluctant to re-revert, though, so I'll leave that for someone else. -Amarkov 05:09, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
It's sadly because people don't read and really don't understand what constitutes relevancy or not. I've reverted it and made it very clear that one should check the Talk Page... Just like the removal of that awful table from ages ago this might take some time to "iron out", so to speak. -Coltonblue 05:19, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
I suppose with the Japanese release date mere days away now, it makes sense to delete it, but I do feel it was a comprehensive list of the Pokemon that had been revealed already. Now there is no such list. Michaelritchie200 06:14, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Don't fret. You can still find them at List of Pokémon by name. Just browse through the bottom half of the page. -SaturnYoshi THE VOICES 06:20, 17 September 2006 (UTC)

New Pokémon, techniques, and abilites

I feel like they really shouldn't be part of the article... When will it be decided that there are so many Pokémon, techniques etc. that there won't be sections for it. Instead of giving a detailed list of attacks and types that these new Pokémon can learn, I think that a paragraph or two should be written... --Coltonblue 18:26, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

I see your point, but if there is only a paragraph or two, then how will people be able to see a list of the new pokemon, techniques and abilities if the need arises 0-172 7:41, 11 August 2006 (2006)

Regarding the Unknown Pokémon and Pictures

While this unknown Pokémon resembles Electabuzz it is still speculation, so please do not add that he evolves from Electabuzz and that he is Electric-type. Second, don't add those fan-made, unofficial pictures. Don't add any pictures to the table.Coltonblue 17:01, 18 July 2006 (UTC)Coltonblue

It's now confirmed that Elekible is truly evolved from Electabuzz. Steelz 06:29, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
You're addressing something from July, when we didn't know, now we do. -Sukecchi 10:37, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
i was just fliping through the channels a hour or so ago and i stop on a new episode of pokemon the name was "weekend warriors" and at the beggining of the episode it shows a group of people and there pokemon standing in front of a contest and i noticed one of the people standing there had a strange looking pokemon i have never seen it before and if i can find a pic or something on it i will show it but you guys should check it out i think its a new pokemon. Darknobody25 12:07, 23 september 2006 (UTC)
Since the episode aired a loong time ago in Japan, it's safe to say there isn't a new pokemon in it. -Amarkov 21:20, 23 September 2006 (UTC)
well its not something you would notice right away i recorded it and watched it one more time to verify and i looks like a raptor or dragon type pokemon and if you watch it you have to look very carefully to see it but it only shows the back of the pokemon then again i could be wrong but i still think there is a chance it could be a new pokemon. -Darknobody25 07:29, 24 september 2006 (UTC)
Um... If it's so hard to see, then how do you know it is new and not just a Charizard or something? Seriously, people in Japan have had MONTHS to look over the episodes by the time the rest of the world gets them. -Amarkov 14:54, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
i never said that it was hard to see i said it is hard to noticed if i can find a screen shot of the episode then i will most it but i havent found one yet. -Darknobody25 11:42, 24 september 2006 (UTC)
I see it, but again, given that it's been out for months (and that the picture is on Serebii), I really doubt it's new. -Amarkov 19:15, 24 September 2006 (UTC)
ya ok i went to serebii and saw the pic and at first glance you wouldnt be able to tell it was a new pokemon and because it is the back of it people wouldnt pay much attention to it but i still think it could be a new one even if it was in japan for a while doesnt mean that they would have noticed but you could be right also i may be wrong. -Darknobody25 15:07, 24 september 2006 (UTC)

New Techniques section

There's a picture of Munchlax fighting Weavile covering up a corner of the table, can someone fix that? I can't find the picture in the code >.>

Page Streamline

So I finally managed to get around to attempting to synthesize this rather bloated page into a slightly less bloated one ha... The essential problem is that I'd rather not have the continuity issues ("In the anime", etc) discussed on the page dedicated to the games, but I was reticent to remove them because that's more of a decision to be made by the masses. On that front, I'd like to know how people feel about that particular issue.

Also, it will be noticed that I removed the table describing the newest Pokemon in great detail as this is a matter more aptly suited to personal Pokemon pages. I, however, did not destroy the data completely and it is currently sitting on my hard drive. If need be, I'll put it back up here. (Or I suppose someone could copy it from an old revert... whatever ha.) Unless I'm mistaken, each of the new Pokemon has a page, and I'm on the way to add the contents of the table into said encyclopedic entry.

I can't actually think of anything else that may be an issue of the top of my head, but please, 'don't sit around and revert the article just because it looks differently.' In other words, act like you're not mentally handicapped. (I mention this last point because as I type this, someone has already reverted due to "vandalism"... funny. I guess this person has never)
Charles M. Reed 06:14, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

I didn't revert it due to absolute vandalism. I reverted your edit because it was amateurish and created new mistakes that didn't exist in the previous version like capitalization of sub-titles and mispronunciations. So if you want to change an article for whatever arguable reason of yours at least try to maintain the quality of the previous edit instead of lowering it, which totally negates the purpose of an edit. Also, that's why I said "vandalism of several segments", rather than "total vandalism". Funny how your "healthy mind" works. Lividore 07:33, 14 June 2006 (UTC)

P.S. It is more appropriate to put a note on the discussion page before you make a major edit (which didn't exist at the time of my reversion).

If you'll look at my next to last article edit note, you'll see that I asked for any concerned parties to take a look at the Discussion page. When you did that, and I shall assume you did that since you were aware that I was sitting on this very screen for some twenty odd minutes before actually completing it, did you suppose that I was bluffing? It would seem that you immediately chose to revert it due to "vandalism that in "several segments", ignoring my initial plea because you presumably decided that if the discussion page wasn't immediately updated then I had no right to make mass edits. I don't mind that - the discrepancy between my the article and the discussion of the changes was prolonged. I apologize for the confusion, but it isn't as if I waited several days. I was merely delayed by minutes.

However, you've said something interesting about the edit that being that the changes aren't on par with the original. Interesting that you would say that, since the information is essentially the same though reorganized and, in some cases, reworded. You complain about amateurish capitalization and mispronunciations, though you didn't attempt to change them - you just reverted. Apparently you presume that the previous titles were correct in themselves, which could be the case if wikipedia has different rules regarding titles. From my mindset, a section title is to be treated as if it were a chapter in a book. Ideally the standard for handling those is like such. As you can see, when you dicuss titles in this format, my choice was the correct one. I'm obviously missing out on something Wikipedia specific here though. Help me out if I am. You also mention mispronunciations, which I'm confused about due to not actually seeing them. If you can change those for me, and even point them out here to help me, I'd be grateful. I feel certain that my spelling is above average, but I could stand to be taken down a peg.

I'm also not sure why you felt a need to attack me about something as trivial as a wikipedia page. Perhaps you feel offended because of the "mentally handicapped" crack? I can assure you that facetiousness doesn't translate well in print; I don't know, or have anything personal against you, and that little snipe was intended to be a joke. I'm sorry that it wasn't more clear. That doesn't mean I wasn't annoyed with you for the complete revert though - I'd spend a substantial amount of time to actually craft and it lasted a whopping... five minutes? Anyway, back to making the page itself better and getting our personal egos out of the way. Of course, if you feel the need to revert it again, go ahead. It really doesn't matter. If it's still here when I wake up, further cleaning up will be undergone.

Reply to vfd Summary

"A few of the "keep" voters added comments that indicate that they do not yet understand the meaning or purpose of Wikipedia:verifiable"

This is an interesting comment, but I think it is those for vfd that do not understand. Pokémon.com is an American site, and we know information about games months before they put it on their website. Serebii.net's front page for a game also is not to be trusted as it does not get updated. (We know more Pokémon than Gonbe, who we now know is called Munchlax in English.) Coro Coro magazine, on the other hand, is a Japanese Primary source, and the best place to find news and information on Pokémon. If someone with a little mor knowledge on it could make an article about it, I would be very grateful. Sonic Mew 11:48, Jun 16, 2005 (UTC)

Lucario v. Rucario

I know that there is some considerable debate concerning whether or not the proper romanization of the pokemon in question's name should be addressed with the L or the R, but I implore you all to at least come to a consensus on what will be utilized in the long-term future before the actual N/A unveiling, and reflect that change on this page. It doesn't make sense to have it Lucario in one name, and then have it as Rucario in respect to the movie title. I, of course, will not bother to touch it, since it could easily be manipulated by one who begs to differ.

- I suggest Wucario, mostly because neither L nor R matched the Japanese sound, but W is the closest. Lugia was Wugia for a while for the same reason. - Nick15

The idea of using W doesn't mesh with any standard romanisation of Japanese that I know of. You might say that the Japanese sound it's more similair, in your dialect, to W, but W and the L/R sound are phonemic in Japanese(That is, a word becomes a different word if you change one to the other). The disagreement is endemic to any subject that requires romanisation of Japanese, so consistency isn't required, simply because people have coped up till now. If people don't know, they'll learn- enough people are always around to explain. Also, Wikipedia isn't a source of original research, which is what deciding which is the proper version would entail- unless Nintendo/Gamefreak confirms, or has confirmed, that one version is the proper one, leave it alone.

Meteoric Swarm

Pokémon moves can't be longer than twelve characters (e.g. EXTREMESPEED and THUNDERPUNCH). Therefore I question the accuracy of METEORIC SWARM. Stifle (talk) 10:53, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

A few things you have to keep in mind: 1) This is the Japanese name. You can say a lot more with fewer typographical characters in Japanese. 2) This is going to be on DS. DS cards hold more info than GBA carts, so there’s no reason new attacks can’t have longer names. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 06:35, 29 April 2006 (UTC)
Meteoricu Suwarmu would be 9 characters, including the space, if written out in Japanese. This isn't the Japanese name for it, it's just to show that it's perfectly possible for Japanese writing to encode that much information in few enough written characters.

Regarding List of Features

First of all, it is purely speculation that 16 trainers will meet in a "union room". Second, it is obvious that there will be new moves. Stop putting these back in. And as for the features of the DS that will be used, we have no idea about ANY, so don't write "whether or not the clock ... yadda yadda".Coltonblue 01:50, 17 May 2006 (UTC)Coltonblue

New topics go at the bottom of the page. It may be “obvious” to you, but that doesn’t mean it will be to everyone. Not everyone who reads the article will be intimately familiar with Pokémon. The 16 figure and Union Room were mentioned when the Wireless support was, and the mic and touchscreen were mentioned when that quote was released. The clock is relevant( because it’s been important to prior installments), but not among the obvious “feature set” and was not mentioned. I’ll look for the citation links. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 02:30, 17 May 2006 (UTC) Since it is on DS could people just buy the game in JP and put it on a ds and play it in any language. I have come to that theory because i have heard at my local gamestop that you the DS and its games are not reigon coded.

Semicolon

As I explained in this edit, the sentence “CoroCoro recently gave Pokémon fans their first glimpse of Diamond and Pearl’s graphical style when it published a few screenshots, showcasing the game’s battle system, which uses more complex and detailed sprites; and the overworld, which mixes 2D and 3D elements, sporting a bright array of colors, all while maintaining the chibi style seen in previous editions.” does need a semicolon in the middle. Why? Because( aside from it being a massive run-on sentence) a semicolon is acceptable, and even preferred, for seperating list items when the list items contain descriptive clauses using commas, i.e.: [a, b, and c] but [a, which x; b, which y; and c]. At the moment, this is not an issue, since a helpful anon has broken it up into two sentences, a much better solution. But if it should ever be reverted for any reason, a semicolon is the appropriate break. -- WikidSmaht (talk) 22:38, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Well... it doesn't really matter any more, because the sentence has been split, however my sentence was perfectly correct without the semicolon. Though the sentence is, I admit, wordy, it isn't a run-on.Coltonblue 22:47, 6 June 2006 (UTC)Coltonblue

Cacophony?!?!?

Who, may I ask put that in the Abilities section? What Pokemon learns this ability?

According to the article history, Lividore made that particular edit. (See the June 15th edit, rv)Charles M. Reed 19:43, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Sorry? Could you possibly refer to this edit? Well, I did make it, but, as I hope you can see, it certainly doesn't have the word "cacophony" in it. The edit was in fact made by an anon who added the whole "New Abilities" section in "15:23, 16 June 2006". But I wonder, putting the blame on me so quickly, perhaps you are still mad at me for previously reverting your edit. If so, then I assure you, I had no interest in hurting your feelings. My concerns for editing it back were totally pedantic, and I did so for the reasons I mentioned above. I might have acted rashly (almost as rashly as you did), but frankly, I just didn't find your changes to be greatly meritorious. I also made a mistake using the word "vandalism". I might have found your edit to be slightly detrimental, but you obviously made it out of good intentions. I apologize. Please bear no grudge, and happy editing. --Lividore 22:56, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

For the record, I erroneously referred to that revert as your doing by giving it a cursory glance - therefore the mistake has less to do with malice about a previous edit. I mentioned in the section I wrote in response to you several days ago, you would see that I was over that little encounter shortly after it occured. This was a mistake, not a stirring of a pot. I have little interest in getting into childish battles over the internet, and I'm sure the same goes for you. Either way, my mistake and I apologize.Charles M. Reed 23:45, 16 June 2006 (UTC)

Oh, so sorry if I sounded mad, but I was curious, and shocked! :p

Please forgive me for sounding angry, I didn't do any edits at all, I was just wondering what Pokemon learns the ability!

It was on serebii.net's Abilities page, with no Pokémon that have that Ability listed. -- PinkDeoxys 01:00, 24 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah, it's an ac tual ability but no Pokémon get it. -64.139.226.226 22:25, 24 June 2006 (UTC)

New Abilities section

Where are the sources on that? First of all, Soundproof is already an ability in RSE, so it shouldn't be listed. The fact that they did list it makes me wonder about their sources for Moist Body (Which may be an ability in RSE too, but I haven't finished that yet >_> ). Someone please fix that or cite sources. I'm removing Soundproof from it until then. DarthLuigi36 23:41, 17 June 2006 (UTC)

Pointless

I think the article about Diamond and Pearl in other media is pointless. It should be a seperate article. This article is about the Game!

If it were a seperate article it would be cruft, so no.--Zxcvbnm 17:23, 2 July 2006 (UTC)

Animated Gif

I replaced the image of the protagonist going for a stoll with an animated gif. I beleive this gives the reader a more in depth view of the game. Unfortunatly it has a long load time, and may distract the reader. What are your opinions? Locutusofborg 22:13, 7 July 2006 (UTC)

It sorta degrades the article, being a 5 MB picture. Plus, it breaks the preferred page size limit. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 02:22, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, neat picture. How do you get the picture on there, anyway?-blueybub 10:56 pm, 14, July, 2006

I've removed the image, as a 4-5 MB image is unacceptable in a wikipedia article. Perhaps someone would like to add a link to the image instead somewhere in the article. The image in question is pokemonDP2.gif, and the caption below the image was "The female protagonist strolls through a town.(may load slowly)"

A better idea would be to link to the video itself. Also, people, sign your comments. --Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 12:12, 15 July 2006 (UTC)

Hi. I have some suggestions for more pictures on the page. Please think about them.

  • Post pictures of the different times of day.
  • Show some more pictures of in-game battles.
  • Get permission to post some pictures from other websites.

I hope you will post these pictures. I would post these myself, but I don't know how.-Blueybub 15, July, 2006

Though these are good-enough suggestions, they won't really apply until the games are actually released and the page is made into what it eventually will be. Erik the Appreciator 01:41, 16 July 2006 (UTC)

Well, how did other people get pictures of the game?-Blueybub 16, July, 2006 P.S. Hey, "Erik the Appreciator", did you get up at 1:41 in the morning? And whats up with your sick joke on your user page?>:<

What I said in my above comment, I meant that it might not be a good idea to insert more pictures into the article at the moment, however illustrative of the subject matter they might be, while the page is still covering a game that hasn't been released yet. I notice User:Sukecchi took down some images, probably because he thought there were too many images too (though one can never be sure). Don't get me wrong; the page will probably need the images you suggest, but it would work best once the games are released and this article can be written into a full article instead of a "preview" one.
As for my schedule, actually, when I put in the above comment it was 6:41 PM where I lived in California, but Wikipedia registers all times 7 hours ahead of what they are in my time zone. The site is apparently based on the time zone of Great Britain or some other country in Europe because that's where Wikipedia was born originally. And as for my joke, that's just the latest installment in a joke system I've been running on my user page for a while now, where every two weeks I replace it with a new joke or piece of witty advice for everyone to see. This seedy piece of mine has been up for one week already, so within the next week I'll take it down and update with a new joke. My honest apologies if you were offended, really. And call me just "Erik"; the "the Appreciator" part is just a vehicle for me to get into character when online. Whew, I feel like an online essayist. Erik the Appreciator 17:20, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
This is ture, I removed many images last night because there were far too many in here. We went through the same thing wtih Super Smash Brothers Brawl, too many images for a game that hasn't even been released yet.
For example, I removed the image of Munchlax because he has a main article already, thustly need needing an image. Also, the battle between Weavile and Munchlax? Yeah, the Scizor image already shows how battle looks, and the image of Professor...what's his name, seemed really out of place.

I forgive you, Erik. By the way, how do you put user boxes on your page?:I know that didn't have anything to to with pokemon, but I tend to skip to other subjects.:↓ -Blueybub3:34 PM 16, July, 2006

Well, that's what user talk-pages are for. And if you look at my page's code long enough you should see the syntax. However, finding these user boxes is really hard; the ones I have I only saw on other user pages and copied their code onto my own. Also, if you'd like to leave a fully-coded signature without any effort, here's the shortcut for it: ~~~~ Erik the Appreciator 02:08, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

official site

Can someone have the official site translated?
I think it has more informations.

Changed usage of Japanese names in the body to English

In the body, there was some confusing references to the new pokemon using translated versions of the new pokémon names instead of the offical ones we now have, so I changed it. Also, there were two different versions of Weavile's name, so I changed them all to the one from the table/ I doubt this will be an issue but just thought I'd explain myself.Craig Sniffen 00:01, 9 July 2006 (UTC)

Official names

Or how about Weavile's Base stats, I would like to know where this was from! - Hero of legend 6:29PM, 23 July 2006 (UTC)

They were calculated from a screenshot that showed Weavile's stats - admittedly, the one doing the calculations assumed a neutral nature, zero IVs, and zero EVs (the things that influence stats.) It's probably safe to delete in the meantime. --HeroicJay 23:37, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Do we really need the Bases Stats on this page? They can be put on the respective Pokemons' page, and it seems a little excesive to me. JQF 15:18, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

Possible Starters

It said on serebii that he found some picture of what some people are calling the starter Pokemon. He said that they are probably fake, but he said that they could still possibly be the starters. The fighting type Pokemon's name was Nisoduyou, the dark type Togami, and the psychic type was Mimimuu. But, he did say that they were completely legible.--Rat235478683--

They're fake. -Sukecchi 17:47, 26 July 2006 (UTC)
I agree. The starters would, most likily, as always the types water, fire, and grass. Blueybub 7/30/06 2:20 PM
While I think those are fake, it was indeed stated that the D/P starters would be Fighting, Psychic, and Dark, in the Pokémon Garden, although this has not been confirmed. See here DanPMK 18:40, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Well, I was just on Serebii.net and they said that some guy got a trip to Nintendo HQ. He told the website that the starters were the original types. I read the arctice and it said one looked like a penguin and one looked like a cross from chicorita and trapinch. The other one, according to the guy looked like an ape. Blueybub

Yes, we know, but there's the possibility that they are fake. So it's best not to add them yet. -Sukecchi 20:02, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

I wasn't planning on putting it on the page but eventualy, we will have to sometime soon. I thought the starters were the first Pokemon to be made every generation. Blueybub

They're the first Pokemon you get in every Generation, but we don't know if these are the Starters or not. So we can't say they are until we have proof. And please. sign your posts with four tildes ~ <---These. -Sukecchi 15:41, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm confused as to whether it is Freeze or Seize for Weavile. http://serebii.net/diamondpearl/attacks.shtml.

If I remember correctly user Shaojian changed it from Freeze to Sieze. It is a Normal-type attack, as opposed to what "Freeze" may suggest, and "Seize" suits better the move's effect. Besides, Shaojian seems to possess extensive knowledge of the Japanese language so I trust his changes. --Lividore 20:09, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

It hasn't been said that Freeze or Seize is Normal type, though.

I never said it was a normal, attack but I did disagree with it being Ice. A lot of that came from the fact that it was translated as "freeze" when the Japanese word gives the name more of a sense of taking something from someone and preventing them from using it. For example, "seizing" it or "robbing" it from them. The translation of its attack is more along those lines. Though I was told to stay away from original research, I felt some mistranslations needed to be fixed.Shaojian 05:02, 6 August 2006 (UTC)

The Unamed Pokemon

I'm not suggesting we make a page for it or anything else of that kind, but I think we should at least add it to the list of new pokemon. It would basically be like how Korobooshi is but with no Japanise name. I think sould at least be listed. However, I think that no page should be created for it until at least a name is released.--GEM and MegaLightBlaze 26 July 2006

The one that looks like electabuzz?

Yeah, but never mind. He has been named and now has his own page, Erekiburu! And Is now a confirmed Evo of Electabuzz.--GEM and MegaLightBlaze 26 July 2006

Two questions

Right, I noticed another Pokemon being announced, and I can now see it's deleted off the article. Tell me, doesn't this Pokemon look fake? http://img230.exs.cx/img230/6421/fakemanyula0yu.png I mean, it looks like it's been done on Photoshop, not by Ken Sugimori himself O_o

Also, it said that there are 2 silhouettes of new Pokemon, so I take it one of them's revealed (Mukkuru)? Or where the silhouettes the 2 poses of Mukkuru? (sorry if this question is n00bish, I'm just confused <_<;;) --Burai 12:13, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

It's a very old fake, made before the 8th movie was even released. It's based on a silhouette that later turned out to be Mime Jr. --Lividore 12:21, 12 August 2006 (UTC)
That was the worst fake Pokémon I had ever seen. But I am also wondering what the source is for the two silohuettes mentioned in the article. The ones where it said that one of them is Mukkuru. --SaturnYoshi 12:33, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Ah, I knew it'd be fake anyway. I think it would be good to put up a warning somewhere not to say anything more about fake Pokemon (like the fake starters and now this one). What do you guys think? --Burai 16:38, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

The problem is, not everyone will listen to the warning. Furthermore, some people actually believe that the fake Pokémon are real and that's why they get added in the first place. --SaturnYoshi 21:41, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

Poke'mon has been going down the drain ever since Yu-Gi-Oh, and I thought they would stoop low enough to create "Mewthree". Go to google images and you can see her. Probably fake, but just maybe... 12hernn 03:51, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

I hardly doubt that Pokémon is going down the drain. It is still one of Nintendo's big money-makers. Also, Mewthree is one of the oldest Fakémon out there. It was created back when people first learned about Mew and Mewtwo. --SaturnYoshi 04:01, 13 August 2006 (UTC)

True, but the creators of Pokemon could use the fake Mewthree for their gain, right? 12hernn 01:44, 1 September 2006 (UTC) loves to eat.

I highly doubt that. I don't see how it could be to their benefit to support a fake Pokémon. Joizashmo 02:00, 1 September 2006 (UTC)

I think they are both fake. However, Aobasu is more likely to be real than Aobasubasu. -YeoungBraxx 22:27, 16 August 2006

This website shows fakes of Pokémon but it does have two creatures near the top that look like evolutions of the new water starter. http://serebii.net/fakes/ It does say that they are not strictly fakes but they have no source. Korinku and friends

Seven new names have appeared here but they were left in a very messy state. I've cleaned them up - regardless of whether or not they are real - just to make it look a bit more presentable. I ran a Google Image search on some of the names and found nothing relevant which makes me wonder if they are real or not. Michaelritchie200 08:19, 12 September 2006 (UTC)

  • Diamond and Pearl will also feature new abilities, such as "Belligerence" (which raises a Pokemon's attack when its opponent is of the opposite gender), "Natural" (Pokemon always attacks Pokemon with higher stats), "Simplicity" (raises the effect of hold items or attack aftereffects), and "Unconventional" (disables other Pokemon's ability).‹The template Talkfact is being considered for merging.› [citation needed]

Plot

   * At the start of the game, you see a newscast about a Red Gyarados sighting. Thats right, the Red Gyarados makes a return. With the TV Report in mind, you go to your Rival's house and head to Trust Lake to try and see it. However when you get there you are attacked by Mukkuru and get to pick your starter Pokémon to fight them off. Your Rival gets the Pokémon that is strong against yours
   * You then go to Futaba to get the Running Shoes from your mother and head to Masago Town where the Professor gives you the Pokémon you chose and the Pokédex
   * You meet your other rival, Kouki if its Male or Hikari if its Female, who shows you around Masago Town. Afterwards you go to Futaba Town to get the Adventure Note (Unknown what that does) from your Mother and a parcel for your rival to be delivered to him
   * On Route 202, Kouki/Hikari will be there to meet you and show you how to capture Pokémon. They give you the 5 extra Pokéballs and they have the Starter Pokémon that is weak to yours
   * In Kotobuki City, you get the Town Map from your rival. Kotobuki has loads of areas to explore including a TV Station, Trainer School and the Pokétch Company. You have to answer questions correctly from 3 people around the City to get the Pokétch.

I got this from Serebii.net. --Akinero209.197.162.136 20:42, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

I traced the source, and it is reputable, so that isn't a concern. But I don't think that the starting plot (or for that matter, any of the plot) needs to be in the article. It's not really encyclopedia-worthy. -Amarkov 21:38, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
The plot can be prosified and made encyclopedic, however, and if it's short, it's generally accepted by WP:CVG. - Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 02:46, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
True. However, more of my concern is that none of the other Pokemon game articles mention the plot, so consistency might be best.-Amarkov 03:12, 22 September 2006 (UTC)
That said, Pokémon games do have quite a small plot if ever having one - the story events mentioned on Serebii.net are just that - events, and therefore the article technically doesn't need a section on the plot. - Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 05:31, 22 September 2006 (UTC)

I want the tradeing part of connectivity in the artical, to make it clear that you are actually trading with a community of people at the same time, as opposed to trading with just one person. I'm sorry, I made a huge mistake. I miss understood the rough translation google gave me. What I did find out, was how the system really works. You deposit a pokemon you want to trade, and while you play, it finds people who are willing to trade for that pokemon. You come back later to review the trades, and accept or decline on any of the offers. IT also works the other way around. You can search by pokemon by name, level, and type. I genuinely sorry for the misinformation. Warningincominggame 19:43, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

American Release

Okay, given that the Aussi Release of March 2007 is considered valid, and that IGN is saying TBA 2006, would it be possible that D/P would be coming out at the end of 2006, and should information on the page reflect this? I can totally see Nintendo releasing D/P a week before Christmas, but I'm wondering if there is any hard info to back this up. JQF 23:28, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

Speculation on release dates shouldn't be in the article. Besides, 2007 was confirmed at Journey Across America. -Amarkov babble 23:51, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

The Gamespot article which said it would come out in November of 2006 (though this could be taken as inefficient proof) should be cited as source of the TBA 2006 US release date. Along with the change on IGN's page from TBA 2007 to TBA 2006. Timekeeper 16:25, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
If it was TBA 2006 a few seconds ago, why is it TBA 2007 now? I think we need to make up our minds, here. Sir Chocobo 1 October 2006
Have we decided on whether that article was referring to D/P or FF? Because it's really getting annoying. Right now, I say we keep it as TBA 2006, because it's the first real date we've been given, even if it ends up that it isn't referring to D/P. ShadowUltra 19:14, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Except we were given 2007 at Journey Across America. Besides, Gamespot is hardly a reliable source, especially when they just state the date like it's a fact. I'm changing it to TBA; hopefully that's acceptable to everyone. -Amarkov babble 19:33, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
We really need a link or something to the JAA date, or else this debate will keep going on until another announcement is made. JQF 20:41, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
Or we could just change it to TBA, like I did. I would have provided a link, except I don't have one. Regardless, there is no reason why Gamespot would have the release date, so changing to 2006 because of it would make no sense.-Amarkov babble 21:06, 1 October 2006 (UTC)
I'm not going to change the article anymore, as edit wars are bad, but really, does ANYONE but the person who is editing it think Gamespot is reliable? -Amarkov babble 00:46, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

So, the pokenum template disagrees with the count in the article.

Release date?

I've noticed some editing, or overall thought that a November '06 date is wrong, and that no valid source has it. I think we should wait a little while, and allow some more looking into of this, and whether Gamespot is talking about FFIII for the DS, or together, both Diamond and Pearl, and FFIII. Now I know Nintendo made DP out for Quarter 1, and with a lot of hype for this game, I can see why some people would look at anything with a hint of a release date as pure fact. Let's wait for an announcement from NOA, or another high quality source before reading too much into the wording of Gamespot's or other sources articles. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 69.207.182.244 (talkcontribs) .

I believe the problem is that Gamespot stated the game was being released along with FFIII. However, as far as I know, it has been stated that D&P would be launching early next year, as Nintendo would not launch two different Pókemon games (from different series) in the same region. I agree that we must wait. -- ReyBrujo 01:06, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
No, the problem is that there is no logical reason why Gamespot would get the information before anyone else. -Amarkov babble 01:10, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
However, other sites are changing their American release dates to TBA 2006, which is conrasting Nintendo's previous statements of 2007. Release dates can change at a moment's notice, and we're not sure if some info got leaked, or if all these sites are just guessing. Sir Chocobo 10:33, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
Do you think that WE got leaked info? No, yet the date was still changed to TBA 06. Because of Gamespot. Now, which is easier to believe: that all those sites had the release date leaked to them, or that they're just following Gamespot's lead? And it's not like Gamespot is particularly trustworthy. -Amarkov babble

13:37, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

In all honesty I consider IGN to be a reliable source for the TBA 2006 date. After all, TBA doesn't confirm it will come out in 2006, it means the date will be announced and will most likely be a 2006 date. Seems a fair agreement, eh? We can also put that the credibility of GameSpot and IGN's stated release dates is questioned. Timekeeper 15:23, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
I'd say IGN is a reliable source. If only we could go and ask someone from IGN or whatnot if they did infact copy from Gamespot, or if they somehow got this info from a leaked source. Think about it though, we've had PLENTY of leaked info about DP, why stop this info from being crediable? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.97.197.161 (talkcontribs) .
I believe they are all following GameSpot lead. However, since we only need information to verifiable, not mattering if it is true or a rumour, I would have no problem if someone changes the date to TBA 2006. -- ReyBrujo 16:02, 2 October 2006 (UTC)
I'll try to contain my excitement...November 17 seems awfully specific to just be random vandalism, even if it was put in wrong...is there a reference or is Wikipedia getting it's proverbial leg pulled? Sir Chocobo 21:53, 2 October 2006 (UTC)

I have no problem with the TBA 2006/07. We could use the {{dubious}} template, like TBA 2006/07 [dubiousdiscuss] -- ReyBrujo 03:03, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Except said template does not apply, as it's not at all dubious that it will be released in 2006 or 2007. -Amarkov babble 03:25, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
(deindenting) Oh, sorry, I meant TBA 2006 [dubiousdiscuss] -- ReyBrujo 05:28, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
But why should we pick 2006? Why not 2007? The newest supposed information shouldn't always take precedence. -Amarkov babble 14:35, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
But the most common info, I think that's 06. Plus we can't just assume everyone copied gamespot, now can we? ~~Ballad
I say we just leave it TBA for now, with a note of Nintendo giving a projected Q1 2007 release. JQF 17:06, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
"Hey there, I was forwarded your question about a recent article on Pokemon Diamond and Pearl and I just wanted to say that the sentence you pointed out had a typo in it, and was only referring to Final Fantasy III. Our apologies for the mistake; the article has been corrected and clarified now. Thanks for bringing the issue to our attention. Have a good one,

Brendan Sinclair Associate News Editor GameSpot 235 Second Street | San Francisco, CA 94105" Well I guess that settles it ~Ballad

Were you honestly the first one to contact them about that? I was POSITIVE we were acting under the grounds that others had and received no response! MAN! Sir Chocobo 21:32, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
Well, that was what I thought :-) However, for future reference, Wikipedia does not accept original research. The fact that they updated the original story was enough, but it is something to keep in mind. -- ReyBrujo 05:02, 4 October 2006 (UTC)
On the topic of release dates, why do people put both the EU flag and the UK flag rather than just the EU. Last time I checked the UK is part of the EU. It's like saying EU & Germany for a release or EU & Ireland.
Because someone decided that if the NA release got two flags, so should the other releases. -Amarkov babble 21:14, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
Well if there was going to be two flags it should've been a non-EU country in Europe like Iceland, Switzerland or Norway. DavidiusX20 12:27, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
But last time I checked, N.A. didn't have a flag.Tennis Dynamite 21:26, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
I didn't say it made sense. -Amarkov babble 21:27, 6 October 2006 (UTC)

Seeing as there are no longer any 2006 sources...

Should we change it back to TBA 2007? -Amarkov babble 04:22, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Just put "TBA" and wait for an annoucement. So silly...(not you, but the concept of this revert war) DanPMK 04:35, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

This really makes me wish SOMEONE had bothered to record the comments at JAA... I was just asking, since all the sources that said 2006 have either been reworded or no longer exist. It doesn't really matter. -Amarkov babble 04:38, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

someone from Smogon.com might have the recording- Ballad

Doubt it. It's not like people knew that the release date was going to be announced... -Amarkov babble 14:51, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Region lock on GBA transfer

I'm not entirely convinced that this region lock really exists.

I'll be honest - I'm not far enough in the game to have tried it myself. However, I DO know that the DS ROM contains game codes for ALL regions of the GBA games - Japanese, English (US and UK are identical), French, German, Spanish and Italian. It makes no sense for the game to contain that data if it can't actually use it. --Pidgeot (t) (c) (e) 21:20, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

No matter what the ROM says, nobody has been able to transfer from English GBA games to a Japanese D/P. It's quite possible they just slapped all the region codes on, so the translators only had to pick the correct one to use. -Amarkov babble 21:32, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
...but that doesn't make sense. True, the data around the gamecodes maps each gamecode to the save format (R/S, F/L, E), which game it is (for Deoxys, presumably, although Ruby and Sapphire each have their own game-ID there, but share the same Deoxys), as well as the in-game language, so it certainly wouldn't be a problem to filter out anything. But why write code to filter a whitelist? It can't be to avoid recompilation, since the code must be changed to support the extra name length in non-JP regions (though it's enough to do it for one version), and you'd have excessive overhead if you had a file on the DS cartridge filesystem to contain the single byte that the filter needs to use - if you're going to do that, you might as well have the valid gamecodes in a file instead. (And for the record, they're NOT in a separate file - the gamecodes are in the actual binary.)
Also, they implemented (and explicitly supported) cross-region trading in the R/S-generation, and continue to support it in D/P. Why disable cross-region support here, when the code to read the saves must be written regardless? At best, you can buy yourself more time to do that for the other regions, but considering that the code can likely be reused from the GBA with little to no modification, that shouldn't be necessary. --Pidgeot (t) (c) (e) 22:54, 7 October 2006 (UTC)
Again, you can argue that it doesn't make sense all you want. It may very well not make sense. The fact remains, it is true. If you get the national dex and you find that it is indeed possible to transfer from English GBA games, then bring it up again. -Amarkov babble 23:01, 7 October 2006 (UTC)

Heres an even more important question on region lock: Is regular trading between regions going to work?

We don't know. Don't add any information on it until we do. -Amarkov babble 03:01, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

Correct information

Now that the games are out in Japan. We need People who have played the JP version (And could read it and also use english correctly) to start adding verified info. Much of the info we have is still all speculation even though the game is out in JP expecialy on the pages on the pokemon. I'd do this myself but.. I can't read japanese. Nor do i have a Japanse DS(if you need one) or the game for that matter.Lego3400: The Sage of Time 00:20, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

We do. All I could do is remove the reference to new natures, as it would appear that is false, since nobody's seen them. And it has to be someone who can really read Japanese, as mechanical translation never works. -Amarkov babble 00:22, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
I could do that but it'd be considered "original research", no? Shaojian 04:08, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
I don't think so. Besides, someone's going to do it eventually. -Amarkov babble 03:53, 17 October 2006 (UTC)
I'd be able to justify the inclusion of the Natures and such (and confirm it), but I have no method of making it a source. - Tetsuya-san (talk : contribs) 12:04, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

Direct transliteration/trademarked romaji move war

Since there seems to be a large page move war in regards to the romanized names of some D/P Pokemon, I say we should protect those articles which seem to be affected the most (Hydoran, for example). Also, we should come up with a general consensus: either use the trademarked names as the article name, or use the direct translations. Not both. Blue Mirage | Comment 22:38, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

I admit that I participated in this this morning, and had moved Shyem to Sheimi. As far as I am aware - and I've looked - there are ony a handful of Pokemon whos "official" romanizations are known. For those, I'm fine with using those names, but otherwise, we should follow the Hepburn standard for the naming. Magaroja 00:57, 19 October 2006 (UTC)Magaroja

Cheating

Should we add something about how people use cheating devices to unlock event-only pokemon and using the Wi-Fi to trade them all over the world? I see this kind of thing happening on Gamefaqs.com often. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.16.8.148 (talkcontribs) .

Exactly how would this be encyclopedic? People cheat/hack in every game, and it should only be mentioned if it's notable (Pokémon Red and Blue, for instance). Diamond and Pearl just aren't noticeable enough when it comes to cheating. Blue Mirage | Comment 14:25, 20 October 2006 (UTC)

No, I don't think this should be added. However, there has been a glitch discovered on gamefaqs.com that allows people to surf through a door and access Darkrai (an event-only Pokémon). Here's the link:

http://boards.gamefaqs.com/gfaqs/genmessage.php?board=925601&topic=31241075

A few people have confirmed that they have captured Darkrai (and recently, Sheimi, another event only), with little to no side effects, while many others have claimed they're stuck in the "black area". People are now searching for the final event only Pokémon, Aruseus. 124.178.196.69 05:26, 21 October 2006 (UTC) 124.178.196.69 16:32, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

I'm not entirely sure I believe that it works. Either way, we can't use forums as a secondary source. -Amarkov babble 13:30, 21 October 2006 (UTC)

Running in Buildings?

Just something I need cleared up... is it true that you can (finally) run in buildings in Diamond and Pearl? Sincerely, Thrashmeister {U|T|C} 01:27, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
