Poison pill (disambiguation) → Poison pill – "Poison pill" does not have a self-evident primary meaning for a redirect. Despite the majority of links to "poison pill" intending to be for "shareholder rights plan", many are not: There are other inbound links that were intended for either free agency provisions, similar provisions (for which there isn't yet a Wikipedia article) for other contracts generally, legislative wrecking amendments, or literally a pill as a method of poisoning (whether suicide pill or for poisoning someone else). --Closeapple (talk) 07:34, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
- Oppose change redirect to suicide pill as the origin of the term which all other uses are based on. (Closeapple, I took the liberty of moving your rationale into the nomination since nominators are not allowed to support their own nomination). ZXCVBNM (TALK) 11:14, 16 July 2019 (UTC)
- I agree that Shareholder rights plan, the current target of the redirect Poison pill, is not the primary topic and the current situation is therefore undesirable. I'd be happy with either the nom's suggestion (a determination of no primary topic) or with Zxcvbnm's suggestion of move of Poison pill to Suicide pill, with a suitable hatnote. Oppose per WP:ASTONISH.Readers could reasonably expect something in the medical field with this title. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 23:42, 19 July 2019 (UTC)- Shouldn't that be a reason to support the move? The current target of "Poison pill" is shareholder rights plan, a non-medical subject. The nominator's proposal would have Poison pill as a disambiguation page that includes the medical uses. — AjaxSmack 18:17, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
- Good point. I support. --Comment by Selfie City (talk about my contributions) 18:47, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
- Support. Per above the business meaning is only one of several possible, and not clearly the primary. While Suicide pill may be the original literal meaning, it is far outnumbered today by uses in business and legislative contexts. So we should disambiguate as there is no obvious primary topic. -- King of ♥ ♦ ♣ ♠ 01:23, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom and User:King of Hearts. There are several, roughly equally common encyclopedic uses for "poison pill". As much as I am averse to DICDEFs, a disambiguation page with a short WP:CONCEPTDAB would be nice here. — AjaxSmack 18:17, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
- Support per nom, I'd expect suicide pill (or something involving poisoning someone generally) would be more likely here. Crouch, Swale (talk) 18:20, 21 July 2019 (UTC)
- Support - no primary meaning. Johnbod (talk) 17:00, 22 July 2019 (UTC)
