Does anyone know the origin of 'plod' in the context of underground mining? The timesheets that miners hand to administration in Australia are called plods, but I have never been able to track down the source of the word.

I've marked the page to be transwikied, as I agree it's a series of dictionary definitions. It might be possible to write encyclopaedia articles about the police sense and the Australian mining sense, but I don't know. Thryduulf (talk) 09:53, 31 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
