[edit]I strongly believe that this article should be deleted from Wikipedia, because no such incident ever took place in the history of Islam, where the Prophet Hazrat Muhammad (S.A.W.W.) asked his Sahabahs to pledge him to avenge anyone’s murder. I have searched his issue on internet also, nothing came up. I suggest that this is an act of vandalism. The writer has also posted a verse from the Quran, which talks about the Pledge of Aqaba. I would say that this is surely a case of spreading misconceptions. Salman (talk) 17:22, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

I removed reference How do terrorists pledge allegiance? since it cites this article as hence is a violation of WP:CIRCULAR. Sergeant Cribb (talk) 19:44, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
I took out The life of Mahomet: from original sources By Sir William Muir because it is of no value; it just contains the use of the phrase. We still have one ref that does so, marginally better, so this ref is pointless (quality, not quantity) William M. Connolley (talk) 20:26, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not going to revert but I think that [1] does more than just mention. Sergeant Cribb (talk) 21:01, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- I don't claim to be infallible. If you think it is worth including, do please re-add it William M. Connolley (talk) 21:07, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
- Where does the Slate article cite Wikipedia? I don't see it. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 19:49, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- It's a hyperlink in the sentence beginning After one of the prophet's envoys was presumed killed by the Meccans linked from the phrase "presumed killed". Sergeant Cribb (talk) 20:54, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hmmmm...I'm not sure that means they used Wikipedia as a source for the article. It seems more like a "See also" type external link. Usually when a journalist cites Wikipedia, they say something like, "According to Wikipedia...". A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 21:02, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Considering that the author was clearly aware of the article and that the content bears a strong resemblence to it, I suggest that the probability of circularity is sufficiently high that the source must be considered unreliable. Sergeant Cribb (talk) 21:17, 9 June 2011 (UTC)
- Hmmm...I'm really not seeing any resemblance in the wording. At the bottom, it says the author consulted Brannon Wheeler of the Center for Middle East and Islamic Studies at the U.S. Naval Academy. I'm really not sure. I hate to think that we disqualify every article from a reliable source just because it happens to have a link to us. A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 21:34, 9 June 2011 (UTC)

I confess that I came here after seeing this in this: [2], so if that is canvassing, then I am guilty of being "canvassed." That being said, I speak Arabic, and I can translate some of the sources, if it will help improve the article. There is some useful info that I found: [3] and [4], but I am not sure if those sites meet WP's criteria. I will not vote in the AfD, since I did not contribute to this page, but I hope that this article is not deleted, as it is of historical significance. Unflavoured (talk) 05:02, 10 June 2011 (UTC)
