Created this article because there was an erroneous article called Playland Park (Texas) which confused the 2 playland parks in Houston and San Antonio - these were independent parts that really had nothing to do with each other beyond the same names.

I looked and could not establish a specific opening date. All references just state "early 40s". I found a reference to it's 1942 opening season with a "new" roller coaster for that year - that indicates it had been open in previous years without this new ride. I believe I have it narrowed down to either 1940 or 1941.

The specs for The Skyrocket seems suspiciously large - 110 feet high. 1.25 miles long. While these may or may not be accurate - that is published in 2 newspapers of the period. The image does suggest a huge roller coaster. If those numbers are accurate - this would be among the all time biggest roller coasters ever.

Almost nothing could be found so far on the later Cyclone roller coaster. In fact it's rarely referenced by its name. John Miller definitely was involved in it. To what degree I don't know. It could have been anything from a minor consulting role to a major design and construction role. But at any rate since he died while in Houston working on this project - it was certainly the last roller coaster he had any personal involvement in.
