Happy to take up this review. In the meantime, I'd appreciate it if you could take up one of my Music GANs which might stall into the next few months... Cheers, Ippantekina (talk) 07:29, 22 January 2024 (UTC)
Lead and infobox
[edit]- Suggest removing references from Infobox as their inclusion in prose is enough
- "with "melancholic" lyrics" avoid quotations without attribution
- Corrected. Toa Nidhiki05 14:43, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- suggest adding "the" to "the Japanese singer" (WP:FALSETITLE)
Background and recording
[edit]- "Takeuchi's sixth studio album Variety (1984)," comma after "studio album"
- Any more context regarding Variety being a "comeback" record?
- The source doesn't provide additional context. I believe it was due to the gap of time between records - her first five albums were released from 1978 to 1981, Variety didn't come out until 1984. Toa Nidhiki05 14:50, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- Suggest piping comeback
- "she was pregnant at the time of she recorded Variety" → she was pregnant while recording the album
- "because it was fun." period outside the quotation mark per WP:LQ
- The quotation from the Japan Times should be paraphrased as it's pretty long for now.
- Paraphrased a bit - is this sufficient? Toa Nidhiki05 14:50, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Composition
[edit]- "has been described as the "best-known example" of the genre" by whom?
- Attributed. Toa Nidhiki05 14:52, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- What makes this a reliable source?
- It's the digital/media publication of a major American university, the University of Texas at Austin. They have an editorial staff and set editorial standards - and generally speaking, most college papers I've used have been regarded as reliable sources. Toa Nidhiki05 14:17, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
- I see that they do have editorial standards, but it seems the editors are college students. Not sure if they qualify as subject experts that could produce high quality sources. For this particular source, the editor's credentials are also questionable as compared to the one for the Vassar College source (a doctorate in a specialised field). Ippantekina (talk) 02:47, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- I've gone ahead and removed. Toa Nidhiki05 15:57, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- The Vice quote also needs to conform with MOS:LQ
Reception
[edit]- Suggest piping " increase of popularity of vinyl records" to vinyl revival
- "The single would spend 28 weeks" "spent"
- "According to SoundScan Japan, "Plastic Love"
ranked aswas the best-selling analog single of 2021 in Japan" for simplicity
Cultural impact
[edit]- "In 2017 eight-minute version was uploaded by the YouTube account Plastic Lover" In 2017, an eight-minute version...
- "and went viral acquired over 22 million views." and went viral, acquiring over...
More to come.. Ippantekina (talk) 03:10, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
Cultural impact (cont'd)
[edit]- Suggest introducing Thomas Calkins (i.e. who he is, what his specialisation is...)
- "The video doesn't feature" → did not, as the video has now been removed
- Suggest using en-dash (–) instead of hyphens (-)
- Should be replaced. Toa Nidhiki05 19:06, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Suggest using
|script-title=ja
instead of|title=
for Japanese-language sources- I would include this, but I don't have the knowledge of Japanese to 100% correctly translate the titles. Toa Nidhiki05 19:34, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- "the song had become synonymous with future funk" is "future funk" a genre?
- It is, but it's a small one. Toa Nidhiki05 19:06, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Unless the cover versions received extensive critical commentary or charted, I suggest removing them per WP:SONGTRIVIA
- Per WP:SONGCOVER, the more applicable standard here, I've removed three of the covers that were only links to discos. All other covers left either charted, or were discussed or the subject of the article they were referenced in. Toa Nidhiki05
- First-round prose review done. Ippantekina (talk) 02:47, 26 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Toa Nidhiki05: my concern regarding the UoT Austin ref remains (above). Could you help address it? Ippantekina (talk) 04:15, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Also you could set script-title without having a translated title. I think it'd be more appropriate if Japanese-language texts are displayed correctly in their format and not the current Latin format. Ippantekina (talk) 04:16, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Should be done now. Toa Nidhiki05 15:57, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- Great! Passing :) Ippantekina (talk) 02:18, 31 January 2024 (UTC)
