[edit]this article is originally for old metric railway not for new Athens international Airport patras railway--2A02:587:4400:2DD0:ACA2:CFC6:C0BA:ACF3 (talk) 11:13, 13 June 2020 (UTC)
- You are right, and the new line from Athens Airport to Kiato/Patras already has an article: Athens Airport–Kiato railway. Probably @Peloponnisios: overlooked that article when they reworked the Piraeus–Patras railway article into an article about the new railway. I think we should restore the old article, and move the content about the new line to the Athens Airport–Kiato railway article. And if that line has been extended beyond Kiato (as far as I know not for pasengers yet), that article could be renamed. Markussep Talk 08:25, 14 June 2020 (UTC)
Hello dear wikipedians. I am sorry but the information of the ipv6 commentator is wrong. The main line was (and still is) Piraeus-Athens-Kiato-Patras. The line was metric and the upgrade to a modern standard gauge railway was a long awaited project. In 2004 because of the Olympic games there was a partial upgrade of the line till Kiato plus the addition of an extra railway till the airport (which is used by both regular trains and metro trains). The plan is to reach Patras at some time in the near future. Next week is the inauguration ceremony for the train schedules Athens - Aigio (35 Km away from Patras). My proposal is to delete the existing article Athens airport-Kiato which has anyway obsolete information and is not maintained since some years. Any information regarding the old metric line can be added in an already existing section of this article. Thank you in advance. Peloponnisios (talk) 20:46, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
I think the correct name for the new line is Athens Aiport-Patras Railway. Opened and extended to replace the old metric line. A article for example https://www.amna.gr/en/article/353154/Proastiakos-railway-to-be-extended-to-Egio-by-end-August--2A02:587:4404:DB25:7D13:B906:CF5E:9FA2 (talk) 22:17, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
Official Ergose site write just Athens-Patras new railway in an contruction report https://www.ergose.gr/project/psathopyrgos_patra_periohi-mpozaitika_ypodomi/?lang=en and here too https://www.ergose.gr/project/rododafni_aigio_psathopyrgos_siragga_panagopoulas_ypodomi/?lang=en --2A02:587:4404:DB25:7D13:B906:CF5E:9FA2 (talk) 22:23, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
In OSE (Hellenic Railways Organisation) site in the Network statement 2020 article the name of the line is Aiport-Ska-Kiato https://www.ose.gr/phocadownload/network-announcements/OSE_2020_ENGLISH_annexes_PartB_ToPublish.pdf --2A02:587:4404:DB25:7D13:B906:CF5E:9FA2 (talk) 22:33, 15 June 2020 (UTC)
- The old metric line and the new line have different routes and different stations, so I think it is best to keep the two articles. Markussep Talk 06:58, 16 June 2020 (UTC)
I think someone must restore the article--2A02:587:4401:5043:2CC6:CF92:925A:30BD (talk) 14:06, 18 June 2020 (UTC)
The old metric line will never exist again in the future. It is historic. The line Athens- Patras is one of the oldest in the country, inaugurated years before the liberation of Thessaloniki from the Ottomans. The article regarding this historic metric line could possibly stay but the article for the Athens-Patras line is not Athens airport -Patras. The main standard gauge line is Piraeus-Athens-Corinth-Aigio- Patras with the Aigio -Patras line under construction/tendering procedure. The railway line Piraeus-Athens-Ano Liosia is commonly used for the trains to Airport and trains to Patras. The line Ano Liosia -Airport is exclusively used for the trains serving the airport. So lets have a consensus. One different article for the METRIC (old and not in use anymore) line Piraeus - Athens- Patras, and one article for the STANDARD GAUGE line network Piraeus- Athens - Kiato - Aigion (Patras) / Airport line. Peloponnisios (talk) 00:04, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
- I agree we should keep the article about the old metric Piraeus-Patras line. About the new line that will eventually reach Patras: this does not start in Piraeus, the part between Piraeus and the Acharnes junction (SKA) is the Piraeus–Platy railway. We could either split the Athens Airport–Kiato railway into a Athens Airport–SKA and a SKA-Kiato-(Patras) article, or extend the Athens Airport–Kiato railway article with the new sections (is there any news when the Kiato-Rododafni section will open?). The official name of the line in ose Network statement 2020 is Aiport-Ska-Kiato--2A02:587:4401:5043:2CBD:56D9:655F:E940 (talk) 23:13, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
I think must rename the Athens Airport–Kiato railway to Athens airport-Patras or something like that--2A02:587:4401:5043:2CBD:56D9:655F:E940 (talk) 23:16, 19 June 2020 (UTC)
