Use of the word "erroneously" when discussing 'ping' and 'pong' naming scheme.
[edit]'These two messages are also sometimes erroneously called "ping" and "pong".'
Where is the citation for this being erroneous? I can't find a reputable source that explicitly disallows this naming scheme, and there are multiple locations in which this is used as common parlance for this networking behavior. Milomedic (talk) 20:18, 12 August 2024 (UTC)
- I'd add to that that I'm fairly sure it's historic usage, as there were old terminal systems I recall using that replied to a ping request with the text "PONG!". I looked for sourcing briefly, but wasn't able to find a smoking gun; that said, since the current "erroneous" bit is also unsourced, I'm going to go ahead and change it and point back here.
