The result of the move request was: Moved to Pilgrims Knob, Virginia. There's a consensus against removing the state name at this time, but a narrow consensus in favour of removing the apostrophe. — Amakuru (talk) 15:20, 27 February 2024 (UTC)
Pilgrim's Knob, Virginia → Pilgrims Knob – Searching at https://data.census.gov returns the name without an apostrophe, and the preponderance of online sources (e.g. https://www.unitedstateszipcodes.org/24634/) lack an apostrophe, as does the sign in the photo that illustrates the article. There doesn't seem to be any other encyclopedically notable Pilgrims Knob, so no disambiguator is required. William Avery (talk) 10:50, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose removing the state per WP:USPLACE, as elaborated at WP:PERENNIAL. Weak support for removing the apostrophe: sources seem mostly to omit it, though not consistently.[1][2] ╠╣uw [talk] 16:29, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose removing the state (like, STRONGLY Oppose) per WP:USPLACE, but Neutral (weak support?) apostrophe-removal per nominator. Paintspot Infez (talk) 19:18, 19 February 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose on both While it is the only town named Pilgrim's Knob in the US, per this discussion, removing the state is not allowed (Full disclosure: I !voted support in that discussion). The town is listed on numerous sources as "Pilgrim's Knob", with the apostrophe. I don't support the apostrophe removal either. - Neutralhomer • Talk • 10:51, 20 February 2024 (UTC)
- Support per nom plus apply WP:IAR to USPLACE because it, like NCROY did until recently, contradicts CRITERIA by causing unnecessary disambiguation, like in this case. This is problematic because then unnecessarily disambiguated USPLACEs are used as precedent to defend unnecessary disambiguation in other contexts. Let’s clean it up, starting here. —В²C ☎ 21:48, 21 February 2024 (UTC)
- As noted before I think its a good idea but USPLACE says its common usage and should be kept. Crouch, Swale (talk) 19:19, 22 February 2024 (UTC)
