Grease
[edit]I was not able to find out what type of grease is used in the greased pig chase. Is it axle grease, or, heaven forbid, lard? I think more information on this should be included. Lone radical (talk) 23:10, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
History
[edit]more information on the historical origins of pig wrestling. Lone radical (talk) 23:10, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
Other cultures
[edit]It would be interesting to hear about pig wrestling in other cultures besides the US. Lone radical (talk) 23:10, 26 May 2009 (UTC)
The pigs have no choice in the matter
[edit]Did the animal rights people ever consider that excluding the pigs is also taking away their choice? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.182.149.81 (talk) 06:34, 23 December 2012 (UTC)
Big problem with this article
[edit]Please look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ReSgNZ8-eAQ It is a pig scramble event.
Now look at this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgQ6-R7MeZA It is a pig wrestling event.
Please notice that they are two different things.
Now read the article. Notice how it conflates these two things into one thing. Chrisrus (talk) 03:39, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- It's a messy subject, you might say, and it's difficult to grasp it neatly. Jonathunder (talk) 16:21, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- I don't know if there was no pun intended when you called this subject messy, but I enjoyed the humor in any case. :)
- I added an "expert" template, but I don't think I did it perfectly properly.
- I wonder if there's an encyclopedia of rural American culture or some such that we could cite. Chrisrus (talk) 18:38, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
- Yes, my humor was intended. Thank you for noticing. I'm not sure where we would round up a pig wrestling expert. Jonathunder (talk) 18:41, 28 February 2014 (UTC)

Boris Johnson
[edit]While the claim that The term "greased piglet" became strongly associated with [Boris] Johnson during his term as the British prime minister
may be true and/or amusing, it's regrettably not supported by the sources that have been cited ([1], [2], [3]). In order to include in this article the claim that the term is strongly associated with Johnson, we would need at least one source that says that the term is strongly associated with Johnson. No amount of sources using the term to describe Johnson is sufficient (see use–mention distinction). To draw that conclusion from those sources is sensible in many contexts, but in a Wikipedia article is original research. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 19:10, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- User:Arms & Hearts, thanks for your comments above and for engaging on your specific concern. I have changed the sentence to a more bland reference to the fact that other commentators also used the term in referring to Johnson. Would that suffice? thanks. 78.19.228.144 (talk) 19:32, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- Also, could it mention that it became a knickname for Johnson. This Times ref says "The greased piglet [the nickname given to Johnson by a rueful David Cameron] has escaped again". There are actually an extraordinary amount of refs using the term for Johnson, you could also justify a standalone article on it? 78.19.228.144 (talk) 19:42, 21 June 2022 (UTC)
- The problem with the revised version, to my mind, is that it doesn't give any indication of who the commentators it refers to are, or why their use of the phrase is significant. A better way to convey much the same information would be to name the two notable people cited (Cable and Pankaj Mishra) and quote each of them directly. A former Cabinet minister and party leader's views are noteworthy, as are those of a prize-winning author – I don't see the need to make vague claims when we can be more specific (and since we have Cameron, Cable and Mishra, I think we can forget about Towmey in the Telegraph).
- I don't think the refs are sufficient for a standalone article, but you're of course welcome to create one through WP:AFC, or after making an account and ticking the various boxes.
- More generally, and not to hector, but I would recommend following WP:BRD in future: if something you add to an article is challenged by another editor you'll often find, as was the case here, that there's both a good reason for it and an agreeable compromise to be reached, and reverting rather than beginning a discussion tends to just delay that. – Arms & Hearts (talk) 18:41, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
