Is "Phosphorus acid" a valid chemical name?
[edit]After coming across this page I wondered whether it referred to a valid chemical name (or group of compounds) or was a name someone might search for if they did not fully understand chemical nomenclature. I know my sixth-form chemistry seems a long time ago. If it is the latter, I think the starting line should say that and the list could be more helpful about what the reader might be looking for (eg uses). A link to Phosphoric_acids_and_phosphates would probably be appropriate as well. Que (talk) 23:30, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Well... It's not actually a chemical name. "Phosphorus acids" is supposed to mean "acids containing phosphorus", just like sulfur oxoacids. Phosphoric acids and phosphates are only one subcategory of the acids said above - namely, those containing phosphorus(V). Phosphorous acids and phosphites are acids containing phosphorus(III), and are not to be called "phosphorous acids" or "phosphates".Thomas J. S. Greenfield (talk) 11:38, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
Perhaps it's better to change the name to "phosphorous oxoacids" for the sake of clarity.Thomas J. S. Greenfield (talk) 11:41, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Phosphorus acid → Phosphorus oxoacid – Avoid confusion with Phosphorous acid. First line of intro uses this name. Facts707 (talk) 20:49, 12 January 2022 (UTC)
