Provençal > Occitan

[edit]

I wanted to submit the idea that referring to to Pèir de Garròs as a Provençal writer could only create confusion in the mind of any reader who is not a scholar. Over the Occitan language was referred to according to whichever of its dialects that was the most popular at the time. It was called Lemouzi when Lemousin troubadour were in vogue, gascon when mousquetaires were all the rage, provençal with Mistral, etc. Maybe it is time to use the word Occitan... Because calling an Occitan poet from Gascuny a provençal, that's probably too much confusion already.
