Petr Cech tribute
Great goalkeeper. Such a tragedy. Is this guy really dead becuase I haven't seen any other proof apart from what is in this article. I have googled him and nothing about his death. Is he really dead or has someone vandalised the page as a hoax? Ernst Stavro Blofeld 16:43, 15 October 2006 (UTC)
- Vandalising. Cech was injured by another player when he slid down to collect the ball in a recent game, I believe he's just got out of hospital after having surgery on his head. See here. Janipewter 23:48, 16 October 2006 (UTC)
- Petr is still in the hospital, though his health is improving a bit since the surgery. Miss kat 04:54, 18 October 2006 (UTC)

Comments
Hes hardly one of the best 2 keepers in the world, Iker Casillas is better for one. I'd love to have a defence like Chelsea's infront of me. Hell, I'd probably be one of the worlds finest keepers then. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 195.153.122.67 (talk • contribs) 14:41, 11 April 2006.
"He has firmly established himself as one of the world's finest goalkeepers, and he and Gianluigi Buffon, of Juventus, are widely regarded as the two best goalkeepers in the world." This quote from the article does little to avoid weasel words. Is the claim verifiable, please? Alias Flood 03:45, 13 May 2006 (UTC)
- I have now removed this unsourced claim. Alias Flood 04:24, 15 May 2006 (UTC)
- He is considered to be one of the best young keepers in the world. He is worldclass think he went something like 1000+ mins without conceding a goal in the EPL an average joe cant do that. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.226.1.253 (talk) 21:14, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Hockey
Is there anything of the rumours that he wanted to be an ice hockey player as a child, but his parents couldnt afford to buy him skates, so he joined a footbal team instead? 172.188.79.10 13:03, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yes, that's right. He said it in one or two interviews. User:Cubby 2:31, 30 August 2007 (CET)
Did anyone notice that the edit that said he lost in his return vs. liverpool was posted BEFORE the game was over. Yet another example of wikipedia lowering their standards. 68.226.1.253 21:14, 20 January 2007 (UTC)
Clean sheets
At 25 February 2007 he's played for Chelsea 10 times in the Premiership, having only conceded in three matches (7 clean sheets), but...
Does playing 90 seconds against Reading and not conceding really count as a clean sheet? Discuss...
Cloudz679 01:02, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
- I think the clean sheet is always credited to the keeper who started the game, regardless of whether he lasted the full 90 minutes. SteveO 13:35, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Čech breaks Hulse's ankle
There is a paragraph about Rob Hulse breaking his ankle on the Petr Čech page. On 17 March 2007 Hulse and Čech challenged for the ball in a league game at Stamford Bridge and in the collision Hulse's ankle appeared to snap beneath him[1]. If after discussion, not just in SteveO's personal opinion, the concensus is that this is non-notable then I agree it should be removed. There is no suggestion this was anything other than a freak accident. (JoeWiki 14:43, 19 March 2007 (UTC))
- To summarise, my opinion is that a paragraph about another player who collided into Cech and broke his ankle is not necessary here. Surely only if it was deliberate and/or highly controversial it would belong on Cech's page? SteveO 14:55, 19 March 2007 (UTC)
Headguard
does anybody know anything about his headguard, i have no sources but i heard he has to wear it for 3 years. is this correct and i also heard something about him wanting to continue wearing it after the doctors say he doesnt need it.--80.43.49.212 14:51, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
- Well, Čech's headgear is made by a company in New Zealand (Canterbury) that specializes in making said gear for rugby players. There are a couple of articles that mention it (Googling it might help), including this one from The Independent (UK).
- This Sun Online (UK) article mentions Petr told by doctors that the bone damaged by the depressed skull fracture would take at least three years (the article said 36 months, but I'm stating its equivalent) to heal, hence why he might need to wear his headgear for a little longer.
- As for the other statemnt you mentioned, I remember reading an article about that, but I'm afraid I don't know the site address for it.
- Hope that helps. ;) Miss kat 16:23, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
the whole head injury thing needs rewiting, it looks like it was written as the events unfolded --Numberwang 23:20, 28 April 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. As an aside, Cech is a triplet, and it is common for chidlren from nmmultiple births to ahve weak skulls, which may have contributed to his injury, and makes him more likely to wear the headguard.--MartinUK 21:58, 19 May 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed here too. I think it needs two paragraphs at most here talking about it being a collision with Hunt's knee, the fact he had an operation, the speedy recovery and tributes and the headgear . And, as I've just suggested in the article on Hunt, the stuff on the hot air should be reduced to a very brief mention with a pointer to press statements and reports in the footnotes - and that should be in the Hunt article. And the collision with Hulse is an important one in Hulse's career, not Cech's and shouldn't be mentioned here at all.--Peter cohen 18:01, 20 May 2007 (UTC)
- As I've said in the talk for Hunt's article I'm getting an itchy typing finger and, bearing in mindWikipedia:Be bold in updating pages, will work on the two articles together over the weekend unless someone comes up with a counter-proposal.
- Right. I have now edited down the discussion of the injury and fitted it into the flow of the rest of the article. Comments, please. --Peter cohen 21:40, 27 May 2007 (UTC)
- nicely written thanks, much clearer now.--Numberwang 14:30, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks --Peter cohen 19:28, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
- The part about the Hunt-Cech incident seems a bit biased, comments like the injury almost costing him his life are really an opinion and not factual info and you have seemed to have chosen to highlight Mourinho's comment which is incredibly biased. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 86.21.17.86 (talk • contribs) 00:45, 30 July 2007.
Date error?
Quite an impressive fellow if he's been playing for Viktoria Plzen from 1989-1999! Why, he must have been seven when he started! Wonder how good he was in goal... 69.17.67.11 19:23, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
- Well, according to this article from The Independent, he started out as a midfielder, doing some goalkeeping duties on the side when a teammate of his didn't show up (among other things). Though there isn't a time period, it does mention that he was in the youth team for Viktoria Plzeň for a while (kids like him play at a young age, so it might not seem suprising that he started out that way). Hence, the time period seems to make sense to me. Miss kat 21:27, 9 August 2006 (UTC)
I think the reason is he played for youth teams (e.g. the structure is organized for 7-8,9-10,11-12,...) so he climbed up the ladder of those youth teams in Plzen. Which would be just natural for the young 7 yo to start playing (there aren't many preschool teams). — Preceding unsigned comment added by 221.133.116.80 (talk) 18:56, 4 August 2007 (UTC)
Cech is/is not one of the best keepers in the world
If you can't accept this as true, you will have to delete the other 'claims' from Buffon, Kahn, Casillas's article. They are all unsourced claims too.
Cech is undoubtedly one of the best goalkeepers in the world. Why deny it?
See you can claim that but people have wildy different opionins, as far as im concerned he isn't. I believe hes protected by a good defence.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Diontheace (talk • contribs) 19:11, 18 February 2007.
- Your opinion is no reason to remove a legitimate statement backed up with references. You may not consider him to be the best in the world, but many do, which is worthy of a mention. SteveO 19:19, 18 February 2007 (UTC)
Well say that, say he is arguably on of the best. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Miss kat (talk • contribs) 21:03, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
2007 - 08 Season
In the above section it says:-
- "following an accidental collision with the jew Tal Ben Haim during training"
Does anyone else think that the word Jew here is being in a pejorative sense? There have been a few unconstructive edits relating to this section and of this nature. I think replacing jew with "israeli" would be better or perhaps removing the word alltogether. Lordy Why Have You Foresaken Me 11:50, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
- I think that neither jew or Israeli are necessary. Tidus mi2 (talk) 11:10, 24 July 2008 (UTC)

Player Statistics For A Goalkeeper?
Why are the statistics given for Čech at the end Apps and Goals? Statistics given at the end should include appropriate ones for a goalkeeper such as clean sheets, wins/draw/losses and shots faced among others. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 214.3.152.67 (talk) 20:18, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

He has joined Arsenal. You're being overly fastidious.
He is clearly no longer a Chelsea player. He said goodbye to them here: [2]
Arsenal also have him as a player here: http://www.arsenal.com/first-team/players/petr-cech
Also if you go by your logic Alexis Sanchez isn't an Arsenal player: http://www.arsenal.com/news/news-archive/20140710/alexis-sanchez-agrees-to-join-arsenal

Agreed. Cech is clearly an Arsenal player. The standard practise at this stage is for the page to be upated - and also probably unlocked. I see not justification for keeping the now inaccurate information that he is a Chelsea player on the page. There will be no subsequent more official announcement. Atshal (talk) 15:15, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
- Also agree, as if it were possible to disagree. The people replying to the above edit requests are an embarassment. Cech is an Arsenal player, full stop. It's an objective fact. Other breaking news: the moon exists. Eightball (talk) 15:18, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Disgrace to Wikipedia
I just want to acknowledge that not changing Petr Cech's club on this Wikipedia article is disgrace to Wikipedia and to everyone working on it. It is clear that Cech is Arsenal's player, he confirmed it on Twitter as well as Arsenal and Chelsea.
- It's been fixed and it looks like the thanks goes to Mattythewhite. It is nonetheless and embarrassment and a disgrace that so many editors flatly refused to correct the article to reflect fact. Eightball (talk) 15:42, 29 June 2015 (UTC)
Arsenal
Is this a joke? He IS an Arsenal player. It is confirmed on the official club website. It is done, period, end of story. Update the damn article. Eightball (talk) 15:13, 29 June 2015 (UTC)

Sourcing within 'Style of play' section
I have (again) reverted the following edits by @Chandra Shekher Mishra as unsourced:
- Current: Since his emergence as a precocious talent in his youth, Čech has been considered to be one of the greatest, most consistent, and most respected goalkeepers of his generation.
- Proposed change: Since his emergence as a precocious talent in his youth, Čech has been considered to be one of the greatest, most consistent, and most respected goalkeepers both of his generation and of all time.
The sources offered are:
- Petr Cech. ESPN – A stats page that does not make any such suggestion and does not compare Čech with any other player.
- Buffon touts 'brave' Neuer among goalkeeping greats. FourFourTwo. – Contains the quote "Of course when I talk about goalkeepers I think of Iker Casillas, Petr Cech, Oliver Kahn and others so you have to evaluate many elements and not just look at this moment in time", which seems woefully insufficient.
- Cech is one of the greatest goalkeepers ever, says Wenger. FourFourTwo. – Quotes from his own manager before an important game. Of course he's going to say that.
IMO, these sources don't even support the current text, let alone the proposed change. Nzd (talk) 08:11, 15 September 2018 (UTC)
Edit Request on 31 May 2019
Attention! Messirulez, Mattythewhite and all others.
The newly released song named "That's Football" for Bob Wilson foundation by Petr Čech featuring Roger Taylor is a significant event. I think its got to be in the personal life section of this article because it possesses similar information about him. So i would like to suggest to add this information in a proper way there. For reference, take this [[5]]. And i also think that the protection on this page is useless. It was put up because an edit war started but ofcourse the dispute ended even before. Protection on a page shall only be applied when an ONGOING dispute is the cause of frequent edit wars and more edit wars can occur in future because of the dispute. But if the dispute is already over and none of the involved parties are doing anything again, then why is the protection needed at all. Similarly in thid case, it occurred just because of misunderstandings and wasn't intentional at all, so i think the edit warring will never occur again.Hence, protection shall be removed in a matter of 2 or 3 days rather than keeping it intact until august which will cause hinderance in the improvement because people like me who dont have an account here and have very good knowledge about this subject can not edit.
