It's obvious that energy catching capacity is at some level in both cases. If you reach that level and all energy (excess electrons) will be dispersed equally within the cell, finaly they will start to act by breaking vdw bonds because then their energy will be not so strong as in the light case (but the total energy will be enough, like for example in pressure effect as opposite to force/impact/impule effects), but will act as the gradual increase of temperature acts. Only the density of electrons is matter and rates of their neutralisation.
