[edit]Hmm... needs all the 'would's taking out. Grant 20:45, 30 July 2006 (UTC)
- Done it, I'm that bored. It also needs the year of his birth, not just the date. Dw290 15:10, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Year of birth is wrong, also picture on Kendo nagasaki page u have put kendo nagasaki and Lloyd Ryan, well that is wrong as well, as I took the picture I know that Lloyd has never ever looked like that, please try again because if u dont know who it is I is not gonna tell ya, Ooh by the way incase u are wondering how I know I have lived and worked with Kendo for the last 27 years.
- Well the idea of wikipedia is that people that know alot about the subject can edit why dont you edit the page correct the mistake and if possible site sources to prove so. So making comments like that doesnt really help anybody.. if you dont like it being wrong do something about it --- Paulley
Links to Wild Bunch and Death Angel point to completely unrelated articles. Is this helpful? Could edit it myself but this page is someone else's work :) Captain Pedant 14:20, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
DOBs inconsistent - same day and month but different years for body text and side bar. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.5.76.158 (talk) 11:04, 28 October 2012 (UTC) Year of birth is 1941, not 1946. Peter Thornley's Homosexuality
[edit]It was stated in Simon Garfield's excellent book; "The Wrestling" (ISBN: 0571190669 (UK) ISBN: 0571190669 (USA) that Thornley was living in a homosexual relationship with his manager Lloyd Ryan. It came to light in a court case where Thornley had taken his postman to court for blackmail - threatening to reveal his real identity, address, and his sexuality. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.96.181.171 (talk) 16:05, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
- (1) No, it was his original manager George Gillette. Looking at Lloyd Ryan I'd somehow doubt he'd do well as a gay man, even as Trade, don't you?
- (2)It was a plumber, not a postman
- (3)It wasn't a blackmail case, it was straightforward harrasment (the plumber was handing out leaflets with Thornley's name and address on them and even paying for advertisments in the local press underneath the wrestling adverts detailing this information.)
- (4)The leaflets and newspaper advertisments made no mention of Thornley's homosexuality nor that he was living with George
- (5)All the above points are made clear in Garfield's book
- (6)Although Garfield's book does mention Thornley's sexuality, it does not link this to the plumber incident other than mentioning him and George cohabiting. Which by itself would prove nothing - plenty of heterosexuals of the same gender (and come to that plenty of LBGT people not in a relationship with one another) share accomodation - particularly in the rented sector - without any hanky panky going on whatsoever.95.144.245.184 (talk) 11:33, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
- I don't know the details, but I recall that in the 1970s someone claiming to be Kendo Nagasaki gave wrestling lessons to gay men, advertised through media like Gay News. I'm pretty sure this was featured on British TV at the time. I don't recall whether it was Peter Thornley, but if it was just a Kendo Nagasaki impersonator it would be a rash thing to do!86.149.239.159 (talk) 18:39, 15 December 2012 (UTC)
He is frank about his bisexuality in his 2018 autobiography, and about being in a long-term relationship with a man since his wife died 20 years ago. I added him to the LGBT Sportsmen category recently, but it was deleted for not being sourced. Theheartof (talk) 16:52, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
Fair use rationale for Image:Nagasaki.jpg
[edit]Image:Nagasaki.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

(kayfabe)
[edit]Can someone please explain what (kayfabe) is and its relevance to the article? --TammyMoet (talk) 16:55, 11 May 2013 (UTC)
- Kayfabe is a word that when relating to pro wrestling more or less means in universe so its relation to the article is to separate what is things affecting the character and things affecting the man portraying him — Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.1.18.167 (talk) 16:59, 17 June 2014 (UTC)
- There is a Wikipedia article on Kayfabe. The word is used in this sense on a great many other wrestling articles on Wikipedia 95.145.9.243 (talk) 10:12, 25 January 2015 (UTC)

No accidental unmasking, no change of character!
[edit]Re: this section:
Thornley wore a wrestling mask for most of his career, originally purporting to actually be a Japanese Samurai but when he was accidentally unmasked during a match the storyline explanation was that he was channeling a Japanese spirit. Over time the "Spirit" gave the Kendo Nagasaki character mystical powers.
Just to clarify, there was no legitimately accidental unmasking and no change of character. There was an unmasking ceremony in 1977 and various deliberate mid-match unmaskings by various opponents as detailed in the edit text. There was one kayfabe accidental unmasking by tag partner Mark Rocco in 1988 but there was no change of character associated with this. There is no evidence to support the previous content, which is a mixture of Original Research and supposition, neither of which have any place on WP. If anyone disagrees with this, please comment below. If there are no disagreements, we can assume that my corrections are non-controversial. 79.181.106.199 (talk) 16:01, 3 May 2016 (UTC)
