I really don't understand the problem here.

I added a fair chunk of content, and corrected some errors, based on the references I included in that edit. (Some of those errors have crept back, incidentally. The painting was not a "bequest" from Sir John Moores, given that he died in 1993.) I didn't include footnotes, so sue me, but I did include general references as I usually do.

Very quickly, another editor reclassified those general references as external links. So I removed the "external links" heading, but it was reinstated again within a matter of minutes, with the edit comment "Tbeir linked externally without a footnote so tbey sre externsl linkd". [sic] (That, incidentally, is not true. It is perfectly possible for an article to include general reference with links but without a footnote.)

Yet again, I tried to make sure the references I used were properly included uder the correct heading, and yet again I was reverted with the edit summary "Thet external links until you 6urn them into internal ones". [sic] (I'm not sure I understand that that even means, but it is patently untrue that sources cannot appear under a references heading without a footnote.)

There appears to be a significant misunderstanding here, which I tried to correct here, with a quotation from the relevant page: "A general reference is a citation to a reliable source that supports content, but is not linked to any particular text in the article through an inline citation. General references are usually listed at the end of the article in a "References" section".)" And within minutes I was reverted again.

I don't appreciate someone edit warring to stop the references I used being listed under the wrong heading. Including in particular this page, which appears to be the catalogue entry. I'm going to try one more route, with a references heading, and notes and sources, but I have other things to do. I don't intend to edit here again.
