Perth Heat (ABL)/West Australia-Perth Heat split

This article seems to have a case of multiple identity, Since the WA Baseball team readopted the Perth Heat name this is considered a article on two separate entity's, i would like to propose a split in the article:

1. Perth Heat ABL into a seperate article about the team that existed from 1989 untill the folding of the first ABL in 1999.
2. West Australia Baseball team, that first competed in the Claxton Shield in the 1930s till the start of the ABL/1988.

The problem we then have after the ABL is the WA team has had 3 identitys 1- Western Heelers 2- Western Australia and 3- Perth Heat and Perth Heat in the new ABL. where should the line be drawn? Im thinking the WA team in all its forms from 2000-2009 should be under the same banner as the team that was around before 1989, but i am unsure where to go with the article for the next season/ABL mark 2, will it be considered a new team? or simply a new name? --Dan027 (talk) 09:24, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Discussion on article split

• Split 'em. Makes much more sense to have an article on the ABL team and an article on the Claxton Shield team - the only thing they have in common is sharing a name for a while. Rebecca (talk) 09:52, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

Also the Western Heelers should be included in the Western Australia state baseball team article and Perth Heat in the old ABL should be kept for the new ABL article (as it seems most likely it will keep its name). JRA_WestyQld2 ^Talk 12:53, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

• Split. We rename "Perth Heat" to Perth Heat (Australian Baseball League), change Western Australia state baseball team from a redirect page into its own article and have the redirects that currently point to "Perth Heat" changed to it as well. If we do that, we might want to consider doing something similar for the other teams: making the actual article page the "___ state baseball team" and making the current page a redirect to it, just to keep things consistent.

As far as next season is concerned, let's just wait and see. It's entirely possible with the name your team competition that all the teams will have different names to what's come before. From what I've read, the teams will likely be separate entities to the teams playing now - certainly in Canberra's case. The players may be largely the same from this season to next, but they won't be the state teams any more; they can't be if there are already thoughts about future expansion with extra teams from Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria.  Afaber012  (talk)  21:34, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

So at this point we should end up with 3 articles:

1. West Australia Baseball team, 1936-1989, 2000-2004 Western Heelers/West Australia 2000-2004 and the rebrand to Perth Heat 2005-2009
2. Perth Heat 1989 to 1999 ABL 1
3. Perth Heat ABL 2

I think the Perth Heat in ABL 1 are a completely seperate entity then the Perth Heat in ABL 2, only thing in common is a name, they are not being run by the same people as far as i know? this could then be used as a model for other states its just annoying here because they used the same name as a now defunct team. --Dan027 (talk) 10:21, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

I don't think we want to get too far ahead of ourselves though. Though it seems likely they will, we don't know for sure that the Perth team will be called the Heat. If they don't, then we don't have a big problem. Even if they do, we don't have a big problem. Split

I am not clear from the above discussion why a split is being proposed. The article appears to talk about a team which changed its name from the Western Australian baseball team to Perth Heat, and then moved from the Claxton Shield to the New Australian Baseball League. I have restarted a Split discussion to see where we stand as there has been no action on the previous Split request. Could folks indicate the evidence for there being two or more distinct teams which shared the Perth Heat name. SilkTork ^{✔Tea time} 01:26, 1 December 2011 (UTC)

I still think this article should be split as the team in reality has had 3 owners and 3 incarnations, the other examples of this in the ABL is the Brisbane Bandits, same name but not the same teams.

Perth Heat 1989-1999 were a franchise in the original ABL which folded in 1999 and the Heat became non existent, however the owner of the franchise held onto ownership of the Perth Heat name before selling/allowing the Baseball WA to use it as the name for its Senior amateur team competing in the Claxton Shield, the name was then adopted by the new ABL, which has been considered a 100% new entity and all previous records/histories have been ignored, if this was not the case the Perth Heat have won 5 titles (2 in ABL 1, 2 in Claxton Shield and 1 in ABL 2).

I would like to propose to split it as so:

* Perth Heat - 1989-90 (ABL 1).

* Perth Heat - 2007-2009 to be included in a recreated Western Australia state baseball team article, also to include the Western Heelers (2000-06) (why this redirects to the Perth Heat article in a mystery, they existed from 1940~ to 1989)

* Perth Heat - 2009-Present (ABL 2).

There was quite an amount of information regarding the original Perth Heat in this article that seems to of disappeared in the 2-3 years since i last viewed it also. --Dan027 (talk) 06:17, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree with the above. The only reason I didn't support the three-way split in the previous discussion was that at the time it wasn't certain (at least absolutely and officially certain) that the Perth team would be called "Perth Heat". The split should follow the Brisbane Bandits example: Brisbane Bandits for the current team and Brisbane Bandits (1989–1998). The difference here is that there's been three entities with the same name, not just the two, so it would be:

• Perth Heat for the current team. As per WP:DAB, that's the most likely target for someone searching on "perth heat" at the moment, so shouldn't need a disambiguator.
• Perth Heat (1989–1999) for the original ABL team.
• Western Australia state baseball team to cover the seasons of the Claxton Shield and International Baseball League of Australia. Some will be as "Western Australia", some as "Western Heelers", and some as "Perth Heat" in the last few Claxton Shields.

This discussion appears to have ceased. I had a go at doing the split IAW the 3 way split above and realised there were the following problems: Incarnation 1 would only have 1 sentence i.e. it would not be viable. Also, there was no obvious gap between incarnation 2 and 3. If content along the lines of: "Perth Heat dispanded in X because Y. A team of the same name was formed in Z" then things would be different. No such transition could be discerned in the current text so things are not different. Instead, I have removed the tag. If it is felt that the split should go ahead then may I suggest 1 of the following options:

1) add an expand tag instead 2) add sufficient detail so that someone not directly involved can make the split. 3) carry out the split. Trust this helps Op47 (talk) 23:04, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
