Regulation of personal genomics industry
[edit]This article needs a section concerning regulation of the personal genomics industry. Here are some recent articles of note, representing both sides of the issue. The article should provide additional historical context:
- GAO: Direct-To-Consumer Genetic Tests: Misleading Test Results Are Further Complicated by Deceptive Marketing and Other Questionable Practices, 22 July 2010, http://www.gao.gov/products/GAO-10-847T
- House of Representatives Committee on Energy and Commerce: Hearing on “Direct-To-Consumer Genetic Testing and the Consequences to the Public Health, 22 July 2010.
- Reuters: Consumer gene test results misleading, 23 July 2010
- 23andMe: GAO Studies Science Non-Scientifically, 23 July 2010
- Genomes Unzipped (blog): A sad day for personal genomics, 22 July 2010

Existence Genetics
[edit]This section is written like an advertisement and I'd support pruning of the information there. The pages it links to are apparently the work of a single author who lacks NPOV. Cariaso (talk) 21:15, 12 July 2011 (UTC)
The Genographic Project
[edit]Shouldn't there be some mention of National Geographic's Genographic Project? (https://genographic.nationalgeographic.com/) This is a legitimate non-profit personal genomics project at least as reputable as the others listed here. 99.116.99.66 (talk) 04:03, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
- Of course that project should be on the list. I added it, and if you see an oversight like this in the future, feel free to be bold and add it yourself. Blue Rasberry (talk) 14:20, 19 November 2012 (UTC)
Commercial versus non-commercial
[edit]The list of projects in the article space was divided between commercial and non-commercial projects. I removed this distinction because in research the divide is not as clear as it is in, for example, material goods distribution. Non-profit genetics enterprises frequently happen with commercial funding and at the behest of commercial research requests. Without information within an article stating the nature of the non-profit funding model I do not think it is appropriate to make a commercial versus non-profit legal registration the primary categorization scheme for these projects.
