Name

[edit]

Latin pun? Seems forced, more likely from PERdita+st SIMON.[1]

Three Ten Thousand Pounders. These were the most valuable races of the season: Princess of Wales, Eclipse, Jockey Club Stakes. Only the Eclipse is still a "top" race.[2]

I would say so. In fact, I'm sure I read it somewhere before. Quite a few horses were named after one or both parents, and here we have a clear case of "by St Simon out of Perdita". --Redrose64 (talk) 18:02, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Physical attributes

[edit]

I think it would be advisable to add the physical attributes and details of the horse. Nalaiyath (talk) 10:58, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I included his colour and the fact that he was considered very good-looking. Do you mean things like his height? I could probably track that down.Tigerboy1966 (talk) 11:13, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Locomotive

[edit]

I had no idea that this was heading for DYK! Had I known, I would have added something relating to LNER Class A1 locomotive no. 2549 (later no. 50, finally no. 60050) which was named after this horse. I'll try to do something once I'm off hols and can get hold of my reference books again (30 December at the earliest). --Redrose64 (talk) 11:24, 26 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
