Dovetail shuffle
[edit]The article says
- Diaconis established that the deck gradually increases in randomness until seven shuffles, then suddenly becomes much more random.
Shouldn't that be "suddenly becomes much less random"? 24.180.187.9 08:41, 21 June 2006 (UTC)
- No, definitely more random -- that's the point of shuffling a deck of cards, right? 74.96.132.139 16:20, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
vague etymology
[edit]“ | ... a paper entitled "Trailing the Dovetail Shuffle to Its Lair" (a term coined by magician Charles Jordan in the early 1900s) ... | ” |
Taken literally, this phrase means that Jordan coined the phrase trail the dovetail shuffle to its lair, but I'm guessing that's not it. So what term did Jordan coin: dovetail shuffle or lair? —Tamfang (talk) 07:01, 1 January 2012 (UTC)
White tiger story -- invented by user 50.66.24.64 ?
[edit]“ | While visiting the set of Siegfried & Roy in 1996, Diaconis was stalked and cornered by a white tiger. To escape, he presented the cat his car keys and jingled them, before using sleight of hand to make them disappear. This confused the animal and allowed him to slip away. | ” |
posted by unregistered user 50.66.24.64 in October 16. Seems very questionable, couldn't find source for this 'great' story.
