Modern, apparently technical addition
[edit]upon close examination of the second picture, one discovers an added, seemingly modern, piece running the length of and on the dorsum of the sword. the text provides no explanation, and i, for one, am very curious as to what the hell it is.Toyokuni3 (talk) 17:43, 8 February 2018 (UTC)
- I don't know for sure, Toyokuni3, but I once had a career in bronze casting and restoration, and as far as I can tell, these would most likely have been added after the statue's 1990's restoration, as relatively unobtrusive, temporary protective additions to discourge perching birds; bird-lime and bronze are not good companions. A similar narrow bar runs along the arm that supports the Gorgon's head. You might also be interested in this, the official report on that restoration. Haploidavey (talk) 20:10, 8 March 2018 (UTC)
