Why is perkinston so big.
[edit]The article states that perkinston is in stone county but if you look at area maps of perkinston, you see that it stretches across three counties, clear across the whole Gulf Coast region. What are the social and economic reasons the city is so large, when the actual place is so small compared to surrounding cities? sam (talk) 14:10, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
- You reference "area maps" without specifying what maps you are looking at. If you are referring to "Zip Code Maps", then yes, the Perkinston Zip Code (39573) does include portions of 4 counties in south Mississippi. As reported in the Perkinston, MS article, the unincorporated community was established in 1880, and was one of the earliest settlements in south Mississippi. Because Zip Code boundaries were often drawn decades ago, they reflect historical population patterns and mail delivery routes. As populations shifted and mail volumes changed, some zip code boundaries were not updated frequently, leading to larger zones in less densely populated areas. It is the Perkinston Zip Code that stretches across multiple counties, not the community. Woodlot (talk) 15:40, 13 January 2024 (UTC)
