HISTORY

[edit]

The 5th paragraph should, I think, be changed to reflect an actual historic occurrence: The pillaging of the city by Ottoman forces AFTER they had surrendered and handed over the keys to the city (there were, you understand, actual keys to hand over). It's considered heinous to perform such treachery. AND, obviously, that evil, bad faith action by the Ottomans would have had an effect on the decision(s) of Ernst Rüdiger Graf von Starhemberg, Military Leader of the forces at Vienna.

If the Ottoman's had dealt mercifully, even magnanimously, with the inhabitants of Perchtoldsdorf, Starhemberg may have decided to capitulate, being so badly out numbered in all catagories. And what happens if there isn't a "Battle of Vienna (1683)"

Anyhow, for those interested, this is the link:

and the reference is found under "EVENTS DURING THE SIEGE", 2nd paragraph. (Paleocon44 (talk) 12:13, 3 April 2010 (UTC))[reply]
