Article Name
[edit]Kind of a placeholder for now. Would be nice if there was an official name for the thing somewhere. PvOberstein (talk) 03:07, 18 May 2017 (UTC)
- The Ministry of Defense has reported the base as "Djibouti Logistics Support Base" and "the logistics base of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Djibouti" in its press releases. -Mys_721tx (talk) 16:14, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- Thanks, Mys_721tx. Anyone have any objections to renaming it "Djibouti Logistics Support Base"? PvOberstein (talk) 16:26, 23 November 2017 (UTC)
- The official name of this base was not open until May 7th, 2018. So called names "Djibouti Logistics Support Base" and "the logistics base of the Chinese People's Liberation Army (PLA) in Djibouti" are not the official name, only have the meaning in NEWS report. PLA issued the are arm-emblem on May 7 ,2018, the words on the arm-emblem is "Chinese PLA Support Base in Djibouti". So this is the official name and the article name.

Translating text from the link provided above, google returns these terms:
- Djibouti support base
- Djibouti security base
- Djibouti guarantee base
Here [1], you can actually see that the armband worn by the soldiers includes an English translation. The text is,
@PvOberstein and Mys 721tx: I therefore propose that we use that title for this article. -Darouet (talk) 16:58, 10 January 2019 (UTC)
Chinese PLA Support Base In Djibouti
[edit]- Whoever insists on uploading a home made map asserting that China has other bases than the one in Djibouti, please stop. Not only is it inaccurate and based on politically motivated statements from US govt sources, it's just bad form to put such claims in Wikipedia and then continue to revert the change. Don't make me log in. 202.62.41.81 (talk) 06:56, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- Not only that the map has no relevance to the entry, and the other 7 language versions of this entry do not display this false map. I have checked them all, and none mention this matter, because the entry is about the base in Djibouti and not some ideological assertion based on false facts. 202.62.41.81 (talk) 07:03, 21 December 2023 (UTC)
- I tend to agree that a map legend included countries China has "probably contacted" is probably not very useful. Could a proponent of keeping this map provide a quotation form the paywalled source to allow the issue to be examined better? I have also templated the map legend as quotation needed. What is the point of a map showing "suspected" bases ?
[edit]The map in question is a) not relevant to the article, b) doesn't appear in any of the other 6 language versions of this article, and 3) is an artefact of US State Dept and White House anti-Chinese propaganda. Suggest you remove it as it is a pointless map that adds nothing to the article and effects its credibility. 202.62.41.81 (talk) 06:28, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
