- Manufactured by [1+2]-Cycloaddition of dichlorocarbene to trichloroethene in a two-phase reaction with phase-transfer catalyst trimethylbenzylammoniumchloride between trichloroethene and an alcalic phase of sodium trichloroacetate. Sodium trichloroacetate is smoothly decomposed into :CCl2, CO2 and NaCl.
- Pentachlorocyclopropane is created in moderate yield, it has a distinct "green apple" odour.
