State Highway Designation

[edit]

O Mahurangi Penlink is now listed as State Highway 19 at:

- NZTA Signage at routes end (SH1/Dairy Flat)

  • Is this the ONLY reference that mentions SH 19? Ajf773 (talk) 20:31, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
The general arrangement is the only *online* reference I have been able to find.
However the better albeit not online confirmation is, the official NZTA penlink opening date sign at the side of SH1 that does clearly state that the route will be state highway 19. I do find it odd that there isn't further online confirmation but I find it highly unlikely that the designation could be different now that the signage has gone up.
I note there are serveral other users who have also made changes to show Penlink as SH19 who may have found additional references. NZWill (talk) 21:12, 27 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
  • Having had a good look at all the sourcing on this article, and further sources, I can find no reliable evidence that this highway project is to be designated state highway status. This is particularly interesting that the government agency responsible for delivering this project makes not one mention of this on their project website. Until sources become available confirming this, I proposed that all references to this being a state highway are removed. Ajf773 (talk) 08:38, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi @Ajf773, I thought this discussion was resolved last year. Per my last reply, when I last drove past the site there are now some 4 or 5 additional NZTA information signs showing the State Highway Shield (specifically SH19) a facebook user even posted this photo [1] clearly showing one of them, additionally the latest update to the general arrangement published by said government agency [2] on 16 May 2024 continues to show the State Highway 19 status.
I believe the omission of the State Highway status on the cover page of the project website (noting its inclusion in the project documents) is more related to the brand recognition of the name Penlink which predates NZTA by several organisations as opposed to SH19 name which is a much newer and subsequently less used. The facebook link is not accessible (for me anyway), despite facebook typically being considered an unreliable source. The absence of any mention of state highway information on the NZTA's official page still leads me to believe we are jumping the gun here. Ajf773 (talk) 10:29, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Unfortunately, there isn't another way for me to share that image as it was shared to the local area community page and I do not own the image. I would generally agree with Facebook being unreliable; however, it is a photo of an official NZTA sign which I (and likely other wikipedia editors) have personally seen.
Considering that the signs do clearly state that this will be SH19 and they are official NZTA signs rather than those of a lobby group or political group I do have to disagree with the idea that we are jumping the guy on this. NZWill (talk) 11:03, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
The information may well be true, but there isn't any good way of verifying this. The frustration I have is that there is nothing (that I can find) publicly on official record that we can use as a reference. Ajf773 (talk) 11:10, 26 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Hi, I've arrived here from User_talk:Ajf773#revert?. I can also confirm that there are billboards with the SH-19 emblem alongside the motorway. After reading this discussion, I'm still a bit confused. Do we need to take a photo of the sign and upload it to Commons so that it can be used as a citation? --Кайл55 (talk) 09:07, 31 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
I don't believe so, but if you could get a photo of the sign (and if possible the worksite per above photo request) then that would definitely help, and it would be a good addition to the article.
I see you are referencing a community talk as well, so you should be able to add that to the list of citations attached to the State Highway 19 label at the start of the article. NZWill (talk) 22:59, 5 August 2024 (UTC)[reply]
