old talk

[edit]

Just a quick note on his (and so the article's) name: I've moved the article to "Penteala Harikrishna" from P Harikrishna, because I don't believe he is normally known as "P" (that's how FIDE has him in their rating list, but I don't believe it's the most common way of referring to him--I'm prepared to be corrected here). Exactly how we spell his other name is open to debate: I've seen "Penteala", "Pendyala", "Pentala" and probably a few others. I don't think it matters too much which one we use so long as there are redirects to cover all the alternatives. I've gone with "Penteala" because the Chessbase database was the first place I looked, and that's the spelling they use, but if somebody wants to move it elsewhere, that's fine by me (just be sure to fix all the redirects). --Camembert

OK, well now it's got moved to Pentala Harikrishna. That's fine too :) --Camembert

Mr. P harikrishna's name is Pendyala Hari krishna, that should be the place for this page. While some on line sources misspell it as pentala, that word in Mr. Pendyala's mother tongue(Telugu) has a derogatory connotation. I propose we fix this problem by moving it under Pendyala.

I'm not sure how Pentala translates in Telugu, not speaking it and Google Translate being no help but Pentala is the most commonly used spelling and should stand, treated as first name as per English name order, unless there is good reason. I'm not going to push for a page move, as the page itself requires substantial work to it beforehand (tournament lists need to be put into prose, team results fine in table form)but "Pentala Harikrishna" is the accepted English form. Happy to have variants at the top of the page though. Jkmaskell (talk) 14:52, 30 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

FIDE showing P Harikrishna as the 3. best indian

[edit]

According to http://fide.com/ratings/top.phtml?list=men P harikrishna is placed as #25, Krishnan Sasikiran as #21, and Anand as #2... On Krishnan Sasikiran there is the same error, he is called the thirst best indian...

Name Order

[edit]

"Pendyala" is actually his last name, and "Harikrishna" his first name. FIDE makes a lot of mistakes on Indian names, though. Should we change it or not?ChessPlayerLev (talk) 04:24, 24 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Someone finally created a template for Telugu names (I've just found it at Koneru Humpy's article). Sophia91 (talk) 17:51, 17 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Propose page move

[edit]

I have just put the redirecting Pentala Harikrishna up for deletion in order so that this page can move to that spelling. I don't see any problems with this page move seeing as the English-language media uses that spelling over this page's version. Comments, queries, concerns? Jkmaskell (talk) 20:10, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I would fully support the change. Pentala is the normal choice in English texts and appears on promotional posters etc., without any suggestion that the player has a problem with it. Brittle heaven (talk) 23:27, 19 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
