status as a noun

[edit]

Peerage is a countable noun referring to one person's status as a member of the House of Lords. For example: "He was rewarded with a peerage." It is also erroneously used as a non-countable noun instead of nobility, as in (irregular) *"He was elevated to the peerage." The latter expression should be "He was elevated to the nobility," or, better "He was ennobled."
