Incorrect redirect for Pedigree (animal)

[edit]

Pedigree (animal) should not redirect to Purebred. While purebred animals are pedigreed, not by any means are all pedigreed animals purebred, since pedigrees (e.g. in breed registries of various forms such as fancier organizations, governmental agricultural agencies, and private-sector studbooks/herdbooks, etc.) are also used for development of crossbreeds and domestic–wild hybrids, the opposite of purebreeding. Someone needs to write a basic article on animal pedigreeing, probably, but for now I'm changing this to redirect to breed registry, the closest article we have.  — SMcCandlish ¢ ≽ʌⱷ҅ʌ≼  10:09, 19 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hm. I wonder if this would better redirect to pedigree chart or the like. I also note that the pedigree cat article redirects to show cat, while the pedigree dog one goes to purebred dog. Something that strikes me here is that the use of the word itself seems to vary from animal to animal (show cats only? or is that a bad redirect?) Montanabw(talk) 06:30, 24 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
