Most common name ?

[edit]

I am not sure if Peano existence theorem is the most common name for this theorem. MathMartin 17:51, 16 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

bumped into this article by accident. quite surprising the article is this new. we sure this is not covered elsewhere in WP? anyhow, Peano or Cauchy-Peano both are common IIRC. Mct mht 14:25, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hi there, I was suprised to see this article missing, too. I did a quick search to see if this is covered anywhere else, but could not find anything. On a more general level all the articles on ordinary differential equations look a bit neglected. The french and german wikipedia seem to do better in this regard. hey, Martin. just also wanted to add that the statement of the theorem in the current version seems kinda funny. R × R itself is open and simply connected but to claim the globlal existence of solutions in general is certainly not right. perhaps one wants to say a solution exists in a neighborhood of (x_0, y_0). Yes you are correct, I want to state a local version of the existence theorem. But up till now I could not find any discussion on local solutions, extension of solutions and global solutions in wikipedia. Therefore I added stuff at ordinary differential equation. I will try to expand and fix the article later. Perhaps I should be honest and tell you I am just learning this stuff. So be prepared for some serious mistakes on my side :). Comments and help are always appreciated. MathMartin 14:57, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
ok, hope to see you around. :-) Mct mht 15:27, 17 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]
