Incorrect title
[edit]"Paysage bord du Seine" is incorrect French, probably due to a mistaken transcription (which does appear in the museum's loan record notecard). Most references title the painting "Paysage Bords de Seine", so I propose renaming the article to that title, and at most relegating the "bord du" version of the title to a note. --Kai Carver (talk) 13:16, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
- Here's a photo of the gallery label, clearly written as "Paysage Bords de Seine": http://www.thehistoryblog.com/archives/19568
- By the way, the capitalized "Bords" is a bit odd, since it would not be capitalized according to French title rules. However, it makes some sense if it is meant as "description of the work", "title", where the title would be simply "Bords de Seine". And indeed, looking at that photo, you see a comma, so it's actually "Paysage, Bords de Seine". They use the comma form of the title here: Pierre-Auguste Renoir#Posthumous_sales, but nowhere else I've seen. --Kai Carver (talk) 14:29, 15 June 2016 (UTC)
- French WP has it as "Paysages Bords de Seine". Should we follow suit? -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 09:46, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- I think the plural is a mistake in the French press accounts from 2012. The singular is used in a list of Renoir works on French wiki. Most cites in English use the singular. Also, it's a tiny painting, so the plural "landscapes" seems improbable. See above for more evidence of the singular. I'd recommend changing the French page title instead. --Kai Carver (talk) 08:14, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
