Manhattan Project

[edit]

Back when it was a substub, pretty much all this article said was that Nemenyi might be Bobby Fischer's father and that he worked on the Manhattan Project. This is pretty much all that Fischer's obituaries said. Now we have a much more detailed, sourced article, but the constantly repeated journalistic claim that he was on the Manhattan Project has vanished. There may well be a reason for the disappearance, but what is it? --Paularblaster (talk) 19:49, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Article should probably mention his personality quirks

[edit]

People have spent a lot of time trying to understand Bobby Fischer's mind and bizarre behavior, given his singular dominance in chess. As such, this article would probably be very helpful if it included the well-traveled anecdotes about Nemenyi (obviously Fischer's father) wearing his pajamas under his suits and keeping soap in his pockets so he could wash his hands after touching doorknobs. (I put this BACK on the page because it's not a forum post, it's a mention of specific information that is likely relevant to the article and should be included) 72.79.76.198 (talk) 00:48, 10 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

"In his 1964 exposition ... " Nemenyi died in 1952.

[edit]

Something is probably off here. 72.79.76.198 (talk) 20:42, 23 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Removed redundant reference to Bobby Fischer and also an unclear and possibly incorrect date reference

[edit]

The article originally stated, "in his 1964 exposition," Nemenyi was dead by this point, and according to sources the paper wasn't published in 1964, so I just removed the year completely from the sentence. Likewise, the end of the article mentions him being the father of Bobby Fischer right before the extra section discussion it. So I changed the end of the previous section to just say that Nemenyi was survived officially by one son, leaving the mention of his likely fatherhood of Bobby Fischer to be discussed completely in its own section. 72.79.76.198 (talk) 18:23, 20 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

It currently reads: "the probable father of former World Chess Champion Bobby Fischer." I've read some of the speculation on this point, and although I think it is possible and there is an obvious resemblance between Fischer and the usual photo we see of Nemenyi, it is speculation and the evidence is circumstantial at best. I think 'probable' is too strong a word for an encyclopedia and I have replaced it with 'putative.' Cross Reference (talk) 18:48, 7 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
