Accent

[edit]

"As could be heard in his other film and TV roles, he had a slight English accent even when not in character as Bentley." If he was from New Mexico what's the explanation for this? Affectation, British parents?--T. Anthony (talk) 07:24, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I was wondering about that too. Having an "English" accent doesn't make much sense for someone born in the US. He did grow up in Massachusetts, so it may be either a Boston Brahmin accent or more likely a Mid-Atlantic English accent used by theatre actors. The default to "English" is incorrect, but I can't find any information about this in any online bios. freshacconci talktalk 22:12, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Gay?

[edit]

Too often, we Americans conflate British accents with gay accents. However, every source I see mentions no wife or no children for this actor. On Notable Names Database, they list the sexuality of the person if they can guess it. They say nothing about Mr. Benedict's sexsuality. This is similar to the British actor who played Mr. Belvedere. So, and I support gay rights fully, was Mr. Benedict gay? jcm 12/5/8 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 143.228.129.9 (talk) 17:28, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

See my comment above. Benedict didn't have an English accent, but he didn't have a "gay" accent either. It's closer to a New England/Mid-Atlantic accent. As for his sexuality, unless there is some published information, we don't go there. Although policy on biographies of living people obviously no longer applies, we still need sources, not just a vague idea about types of speech. Not all life-long bachelors are gay. Most probably are, particularly amongst an older generation, but we can't really assume anything. freshacconci talktalk 22:12, 16 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Research Assistance

[edit]

I'm researching for a possible book about The Jeffersons that, I hope, will go beyond the appreciative notes of a fan. I wonder if anyone can help me with this. Contact information for any close relative of Paul Benedict? My contact will be respectful and non-intrusive, I assure you. Thanks! --Christofurio (talk) 15:00, 23 October 2019 (UTC)[reply]
