- On Tuesday May 24, 1988, city council appointed a new city secretary, after the previous one resigned the previous week after a "tumultous" meeting
- 48-year old Wesley Lagrone became a city council member, filling Doris Burd's position. Burd resigned, saying she did not want to work with the new council members who were elected on May 7. In January 1988 Lagrone had been removed from city council after accused of attempting to hold two municipal positions at the same time, which would be in violation of state ordinance
