To illustrate my point on references I have provided a Link. The tag at the top of the article has been there for quite some time. [1] You will also notice the efforts which are going into referencing this article. If the information in the article is challenged, you could hardly keep referring to two sources and leave it at that. For example which source for which statement? Another example of a well referenced articles is this, [2]. Now we can hardly expect one standard of referencing for one article, if we are likewise not going to accept it on all articles. I am more than familiar with referencing and no-one is going to raise a serious challenge here. It is ludicrous to expect every line, every minor comment to be cited, when two very major works have been quoted which contain virtually everything said in the article. I am not sure what your purpose is here other than to make life difficult for those just trying to expand WP. David Lauder10:11, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
David, I resent your remark about “making life difficult.” I was more than convinced you would understand my point. You are quite correct though how ludicrous it is how some expect every single line on an article referenced. I might add, having referenced an article, to have every referenced challenged on the reliability of the source, of suggested bias of the source, or the NPOV and the like is quite trying. I more than understand your point, and therefore understand you comment above? I would suggest that at least some of the article be correctly referenced, as this makes it much difficult later, if information is challenged. I would be more than willing to outline the pitfalls I my self have encountered in this particular area. I did notice though, that there is a vast number of articles like this, could you possibly help with reviewing them for references, thanking you in advance, Regards --Domer4810:34, 29 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just feel that this is not a long article, there is nothing contentious in it, the fellow is very old indeed, and all the info there can be found in the publications cited. It is time consuming doing endless citations (I have done so in other articles) where such current publications are available in all good libraries for verification. Thanks David I knew you would understand. It is time consuming doing endless citations I know. You are more than weclome to review the troubles I have had. I found the best way to deal with it though, was to tag the articles myself, and then begin the slow process of referencing.
