Mr. Patrick Leonard, St. Kevin's, Dartry Road, Dublin, whose death has occurred, was an ex-T.D. for 'North Dublin, and a well-known cattle sales-master and land agent. At one time he owned extensive lands in Meath. He was nephew of the late Mr. Thomas Leonard, Warrenstown, and was brother of 'Mr. John Leonard, Culmullen, who was a member of Meath County Council for many years. Deceased who was over 80, was prominent for many years in hunting and racing circles, and bred Jenkinstown, winner of the English Grand National in 1910. In a bye-election in 1922, as a member of the Cumann na nGaedheal Party, he headed the .poll in North Dublin, and held his seat until defeated several years later. When the Irish Auctioneers' Association was incorporated in 1922, Mr. Leonard was one of the signatories to the Articles of Association, and was responsible for the introduction of an Auctioneers' Bill in the Dail. He was one of the founders and first Chairman of Dublin Cattle Salesmasters' Association and was President of Dublin Chamber of Commerce in 1915. He was a member of Dublin Port and Docks Board for several years, and had been Chairman of the Committee of Management of the Catholic Institute for the Deaf and Dumb at Cabra since 1923. He had also .been a member of the Canal Commission. During the Easter Rising Mr. Leonard was a member of the Food Committee supplying Dublin.
