Hockeneim crash
[edit]As far as I remember, the reason of the fatal crash in Hockeneim are not sure. There are several reconstructions, spanning from broken suspension to problems with skirts (and consequently, ground effect). Is there some source stating that the steering wheel broke down ? Also, on the magazine Autosprint, they wrote that the fatal injuries were at the legs, which caused a massive loss of blood, and that was the cause of the death at the hospital. --Vinci71 (talk) 07:50, 23 May 2008 (UTC)
- I read (I think in Autosport) that he could have lost consciousness due to the high G-forces he sustained with a ground-effect car through the Ostkurve. It's impossible to know for sure, though.--Diniz(talk) 22:17, 1 June 2008 (UTC)
Hang Gliding Accident
[edit]The Ligier section seems to state he was dropped after sustaining a hand injury in a hang gliding accident, and then later mentions a hang gliding accident where Depailler broke his legs (which is mentioned again for some odd reason in the Alfa section, after his death is described). I've always heard the "legs broken" version (e.g. in contemporary issues of Motor Sport, Grand Prix Who's Who, Grand Prix International etc, etc and so on). If there was an accident resulting in a hand injury (though it sounds like a mistake to me... he injured his hand hang-gliding, got fired by Ligier and immediately went out and broke his legs hang-gliding just to make sure?), IMHO that section needs re-writing so it makes sense. The cited Washington Post article I haven't read, but I'd wager my left ankle that it's wrong.
