Peer Review

[edit]

I think you've chosen an interesting filmmaker and I think it's cool that she is Canadian. I think you've on the right track to making a great wiki article, it's just not quite there yet. Here are my suggestions:

  • Add an Infobox.
  • In the Lead you note two of the films she made - if these films were major works, are her best known works, or were here award winning works, that should be noted, otherwise it seems arbitrary to mention them in the Lead.
  • The Background section should come before the Career section.
  • A significant part of the Career section comes from two long quotes, it would be better to paraphrase the main idea behind these quotes in your own original, but neutral, writing. It is important to wikipedia for articles to have a neutral/dispassionate tone.
  • It would also be useful to have more academic/peer reviewed references as it makes for a more informative article.
  • There also appears to be an error in your references, so you should check that out.
  • Also make sure to find other Wikipedia pages where her name appears so you can update the page by putting a link in her name.
  • In the awards section you should find out the years she won the "Golden Reel Award" and the "Grand Prix" - also I think you might mean the Cannes Film Festival, not Paris International Film Festival — Preceding unsigned comment added by Savhosavkin (talkcontribs) 13:22, 29 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I would also just generally suggest that you collect more information about her, for example, you mention she worked with Allan King while they were married, making several movies together that circulated North America, you could expand on this - what movies did they make together? When? It would also be interesting to include information about where she worked (her career started in Montreal, but did she always work there?), why she became interested in film, and why she chose to make films about controversial topics such as immigration and adoption - in what ways were these controversial? Did she take a particular political stance that was not the norm of the time? The historical context of the time she worked in is important as it can help the reader understand why an issue was controversial.
