There is a lot of excess detail in this article, eg: listing each section of the penal code under which people were charged. There also appears to be overlinking and overciting, and some of the citation templates are being used incorrectly - eg: {{cite web}} is not the one to use for news sources. - Sitush (talk) 01:15, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Actually, there are so many problems here that I would quick-fail this nomination if it were not for the fact that I have now edited the article. And, by the way, I suspect there are some copyright violations in here - the tone seems wrong in places. - Sitush (talk) 01:56, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
In the last few minutes I have just undone some reinstatements by Nizil Shah. I am hoping that my edit summaries are self-explanatory but, if not, then we'll work it out here. However, if that stuff goes back in then I'll be pushing the issues right through to the GA check. Honestly, it probably would be better if the nomination were withdrawn because this thing is nowhere near good enough. - Sitush (talk) 06:26, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you, Sitush for taking pain to cleanup article for overcite. I wrote the article as event progressed over the time so keep adding refs for each event. It looks better after cleanup. I think there is no copyvio as far as I know but if you find anything like it or close match, you can mention it. We can reword it to avoid the match. 1931 census was reliable or not, I can not say. But references cites 15% population of state is Patidar based on it. This sentence is important as politically dominant population can press govt for demands. So what should I do to mention that Patidar is dominant population in state? Regarding poor performance of BJP due to "call", the ToI ref mentions that it was one of reasons for poor performance compared to previous elections. I can not understand why such analysis by ToI can not be mentioned here. I am OK with your other points. Regards,--Nizil (talk) 06:35, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
There must be other sources that mention that the Patidars are a significant population, without needing to refer to an unreliable census from 80 years ago. If I remember correctly, the ToI says in the same article that the BJP leaders would have to go away and analyse why they had suffered so much. That directly contradicts the statement earlier in that source that the Patidars caused it - it is a classic example of why the reputation of the ToI has diminished so much in recent years (raised many times at WT:INB). They can't even get their own stories straight. - Sitush (talk) 06:49, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I have already done over 50 edits demonstrating problems. There are many more and I can't possibly list them all here. The obvious starting point is that every single source needs to be checked and the overcites need to be pruned. Articles like this are rarely suitable for GA so soon after the event anyway: they're constructed as things unfold (you say this yourself) and it is like trying to hit a moving target. - Sitush (talk) 06:49, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for your inputs. I understand your points regarding GA nomination. I will withdrew GA nomination but will continue to improve the article.--Nizil (talk) 07:24, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok. I'm not saying it will never be up to GA standard - it just needs quite a lot of work. I'm pleased that you are not disheartened because I know I sometimes come across as being harsh with my words. - Sitush (talk) 07:36, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
I think it is difficult to construct a good article purely from news sources. Looking at scholarly sources gives a better overview and an idea of what to emphasize. Here is a list of scholarly sources that cover the topic. If you can't access any of them, please send me an email message, and I can help with downloading them. Cheers, Kautilya3 (talk) 08:08, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Kautilya3, thank you for bringing my attention to scholar articles. I will try to incorporate them as refs as well as organise information taking cue from it. Regards,--Nizil (talk) 11:11, 16 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
