XV at rugby union
[edit]Sir Henry Tizard said, "I do not think the formation of a first XV at rugby union makes little boys play any less enthusiastically."
Could someone explain or give a link? What is a XV? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.189.11.149 (talk) 00:19, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
- See here: Rugby Union - the First fifteen (XV) is the top team in a Rugby football club or a school - i.e., the 'best' players from a club or school all in one team of 15. Tizard was referring to 'creaming-off' the best 'players' and putting them all into one 'team', i.e., the PFF. Harris was worried that transferring the best aircrews from the frontline Bomber Squadrons to the new PFF would have a discouraging effect on the aircrew left behind, i.e., not-chosen to got to the PFF, but staying in the non-PFF bomber squadrons. Tizard was stating that in his opinion, the players not-selected for the premier rugby team of 15 would play just as enthusiastically as before, that it would have little effect on their morale, and that there would be the same little effect on the non-PFF bomber crews. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.112.49.138 (talk) 16:16, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

Early missions over France and the Low Countries
[edit]Are these missions to be understood to have taken place before the raid of 18 December 1939? How could that be? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bill Irving (talk • contribs) 14:48, 1 November 2016 (UTC)
- The war actually started in September 1939, but I have clarified the text anyway. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.150.10.137 (talk) 10:09, 2 April 2018 (UTC)
