"Coronavirus Controversy" section
[edit]Removed material previously sourced from Twitter, and replaced with reputable sources of local and regional news. Concerned that so far, this page has been used as a puff page for the company, and doesn't present a balanced view on the subject, evidenced by their director of eMarketing, going on to remove unfavourable edits. 81.187.190.111 (talk) 20:23, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
Proposing new draft for Company History
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi, I'm TerryBG and I'm working on behalf of Parkdean Resorts to improve this article, increase its accuracy, and get it more in line with a C or B level Wikipedia article. My COI is disclosed here and here on my userpage.
I would like to propose a new draft for the Company History section of the article, and also for the article's lead.
I have provided a draft for the proposed changes at:
User:TerryBG/Parkdean Resorts.
Since the company Parkdean Resorts is the result of the November 2015 merger of Parkdean Holidays and Park Resorts, I have taken the texts of Parkdean Holidays, Park Resorts, and Parkdean Resorts, cited everything, and organized the drafts into a merged draft. (I did not alter the "Coronavirus response" section at all.)
In creating the merged draft, I have:
- Carefully fact-checked and cited everything from reliable sources
- Corrected or removed any inaccuracies, per reliable citations
- Removed anything completely unverifiable
- Put things in accurate chronological order
- Copyedited for sense, conciseness, accuracy, and neutrality
- Removed promotional-sounding language or text
- Removed some prices where either unverifiable or not particularly relevant
- Added some crucial details if missing
I also cleaned up, corrected, and cited the infobox.
If someone could check my draft (User:TerryBG/Parkdean Resorts), and if doable, instate it, I would be very grateful. If you have any questions or suggestions, please ping me here or leave a message on my talkpage. TerryBG (talk) 11:47, 13 October 2020 (UTC)
- The request does not state reasons for each individual change.[1] A list of reasons have been given (e.g., "In creating the merged draft, I have..."), but those reasons are not specifically applied to the proposed text. Please reformulate your request, making sure that each change has an appropriate reason given. Spintendo 15:03, 26 October 2020 (UTC)

Edit request part 2
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi Spintendo; thanks for your response and instructions above. Per your above request, I have listed below the changes I have made (in my proposed draft, User:TerryBG/Parkdean Resorts) to the three source articles (Parkdean Holidays, Park Resorts, and Parkdean Resorts) in compiling my draft, and the reasons for each. If you or someone else could check them, and if doable, replace the existing text of this current article with my draft (User:TerryBG/Parkdean Resorts), I would appreciate it. My COI is disclosed here and here on my userpage. If there are any further issues, concerns, or suggestions, please let me know. Thanks again, and thank you very much for your time. I see Spintendo has stopped editing, and apparently simply popped in for a day three weeks ago following a six-month break. Since he has not responded to my reply/ping to him, Ymblanter do you think you could check/implement my edit request? (I see you made a helpful edit to this article earlier this year.) If you have any questions, comments, or suggestions, by all means let me know! Please also see the original edit request in the thread above titled "Proposing new draft for Company History". Thanks very much for your time. TerryBG (talk) 14:58, 18 November 2020 (UTC); edited 19:44, 22 November 2020 (UTC)

Pinging Ukexpat, Dormskirk, and Chetsford: I see you have all helped declared-COI editors with requested edits at times in the past. I'm wondering if any of you, or anyone else visiting this page, have time to implement my requested edit above. It's a simple complete copy&replace (from this draft: User:TerryBG/Parkdean Resorts), and the logo and Categories are included to make the implementation easier. I have provided a detailed explanation of changes made (from the three source articles Parkdean Holidays, Park Resorts, and Parkdean Resorts) in the collapsed green box above, and a summary explanation at the top of this overall thread. My COI is declared on my userpage, on the top of this page, and on the talkpage of my draft. Any questions or suggestions, please let me know! Thanks very much. - Hi - I have looked at the proposed improvements and many of the changes look reasonable to me. Unfortunately editors, including myself, who have tried to help COI editors in the past have faced criticism for doing so and I am very regrettably no longer able to help. Best wishes. Dormskirk (talk) 11:43, 29 November 2020 (UTC)
- Hi @TerryBG: I have assessed your request. Here are some notes below:
- Infobox: Everything looked great. I recommend creating an "Operations" section in the article to give information about the company like the number of employees and revenue.
- Lede: I removed the second paragraph as it read as promotional and was not notable.
- History section: I removed a lot of the parks that Parkdean bought because it was turning into a list that was difficult to read. I did not include the information about the mascots or entertainment because it is off-topic. I am concerned that the Park Resorts section is longer than the Parkdean Holidays, but I think that means we need more information about the corporate history of the later. I did not include the awards because I did not think they were notable.
- Corona: I removed some of the company's response regarding good works because Wikipedia is not here to promote good causes. I would consider its inclusion if there was something notable about them, like they were the only company doing these actions.
- Please review my edits and let me know if you have any questions or if I missed anything. Z1720 (talk) 02:44, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @TerryBG: I have assessed your request. Here are some notes below:
Hi Z1720, thank you so much for spending the time to review, assess, and implement these changes! I realize it was a sizable and fairly time-consuming edit request to review, especially since it was a merger and correction of three different wiki articles. I have three comments, below:
1. I will do additional research and see if there is any more information online about the corporate history of Parkdean Holidays, to add to that section.
2. In terms of your recommendation "I recommend creating an 'Operations' section in the article to give information about the company like the number of employees and revenue", I will see if there is enough information currently online in reliable sources for an entire section on that. My sense, from having researched the merger and new company, is that there may not be. Therefore, for the time being, I would like to request, if possible, that you add the sentence below, which covers operations (at least at the end of 2015, and I could research to see if there is more current info to add later) to the "Merge" section. It was in my draft (in the first paragraph of this section), and independently cited; you omitted it but did not happen to mention why.
Upon completion of the merger in November 2015, Parkdean Resorts operated 73 holiday parks across the UK, serving 1.8 million customers, with 22,200 caravan owners, 35,400 pitches, and 400,000 domestic holiday sales across their estate.[1][2]

3. I would like to request that you remove the "advert" template at the top of the article. That template never belonged on this article in the first place. This article was created (apparently at AFC [3]) in March 2016 [4], but the template is dated August 2012 (!). The person that created this new article seems to have copied the template from the top of the Parkdean Holidays wiki article at that time: [5]. (I have no idea why they kept the template, except that they copied the infobox and maybe the advert tag got copied along with it.) In any case, when the article was moved from AFC to article-space in October 2016, the mover did not remove the template, even though there is nothing promotional in the draft [6]. Anyway, regardless of the bizarre circumstances of its origin, I think we can agree that there is nothing promotional in the article at present.
OK, thanks very much again, Z1720! Let me know if any issues .... -- TerryBG (talk) 12:22, 30 January 2021 (UTC)
- Hi TerryBG Here are my thoughts below:
- 2. This section sounded very promotional to me, so I did not include it. However, it can be reworded if we can get the most current stats (from before COVID) and focus on better language. Here is how I would format the sentence, "Parkdean Resorts operates 73 holiday parks in the UK, with XX million people visiting their parks in 20XX." The rest of the information is extra detail that is not needed.
- 3. I took another look at the article, did some copyediting, and removed the banner at the top.
- Let me know if you have any other concerns or questions. Z1720 (talk) 02:40, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- OK thanks very much Z1720. I will see if I can find any stats online of more current but pre-COVID numbers. I note that as of February 2020 the total number of parks is now 67 [7] (as noted in the lead and infobox of this wiki article), but that article doesn't list other stats. I'll see if any more info is out there. Thanks again for all of your help. TerryBG (talk) 05:36, 2 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hello again Z1720, I finally found the pre-covid operational stats that you requested several months ago (your comment number 2 above). Could you please add the information (below) to the article (presumably at the bottom of the "Merge" section, unless you want to create an "Operations" section of only one sentence)? If so, thanks very much and I appreciate your conscientious advice. TerryBG (talk) 23:26, 23 June 2021 (UTC)
As of early 2020, Parkdean Resorts had 20,000 owners of on-site private caravans and lodges, and in its previous peak season of August 2019 had 120,000 people staying at its parks attended by 8,000 employees.[1]
- ^ Walsh, Dominic (17 February 2020). "Parkdean Resorts: Park life adds Bear Grylls to mix for all the people". The Times. Retrieved 23 June 2021.
- PS: Also, the employee number in the infobox should also be changed accordingly (from "6,000" to "8,000"), so I have now given that reference a "ref name" so that it can be used for the infobox as well. Could you implement that change? Thanks! TerryBG (talk) 23:32, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Infobox update and operations stats
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
As noted at the very bottom of the "Edit request part 2" subsection above, the article needs pre-covid operational stats. Here they are, cited by The Times:
As of early 2020, Parkdean Resorts had 20,000 owners of on-site private caravans and lodges, and in its previous peak season of August 2019 had 120,000 people staying at its parks attended by 8,000 employees.[1]
Could someone please add this information to the bottom of the "Merge" section?
Also, per the same citation, the number of employees listed in the infobox needs to be updated from "Over 6,000 in peak season" (which was cited to a 2016 source) to "8,000 in peak season[1]".

Request Edit on the 28th of April, 2022
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hi, I work for Parkdean Resorts. I have read the Wikipedia Guideline recommending I don't edit the Parkdean Resorts page myself since I would be seen as biased, so I am requesting here on talk page instead.
My Request: The section for the pandemic response has several sentences that were added about the travel industry at large, and Parkdean is not mentioned in those articles. Can the articles and two sentences they support be removed?
but remained open for people to stay, despite many other parks in the industry closing.[1][2][3] Welsh Health Minister Vaughan Gething objected to the parks staying open in Wales, saying "There's clear advice for people to avoid unnecessary travel and going to your caravan on the weekend doesn't strike me as necessary travel.".[4]
My Reason for the Request: Looking on other resort pages of similar companies, it seems typical to only include details about that specific company and not have paragraphs about the industry at large. Another good reason to delete these sentences is that they are very confusing because they don't follow a chronology: for example, Parkdean closed most facilities on the day that the "South Wales Argus" article was published and then Parkdean closed the parks as well three days later. So ending that paragraph with "but remained open for people to stay" when referring to an unknown time period is jarring to me, and I also assume it is jarring for readers of Wikipedia for the same reason.
- Done I agree, and would add that the volatile early days of the pandemic saw both businesses and governments struggle to manage its consequences. Noting every single policy change without proper context or due weight is hardly encyclopedic, not to mention these sources don't even mention the subject. PK650 (talk) 00:53, 29 April 2022 (UTC)
- Thank you so much for the time! I appreciate you thinking it over and finding it worth applying. Jessica.N.Park (talk) 23:35, 7 May 2022 (UTC)

Request Edit on the 7th of May, 2022
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello, this is Jessica. This is my second request to the Parkdean Resorts Wikipedia page, since I work for Parkdean and have a conflict of interest. User:PK650 kindly considered the last request, and is obviously very welcome to do so with this one as well. This request is just for cleaning up that same paragraph (about the COVID-19 response at Parkdean) so it makes more sense and reads more easily. Largely, I was hoping it could be slightly re-organized chronologically and I was also wondering if some phrases could be moved and a reference copied and repeated so that some sentences can be woven together more naturally. I put some example HTML below from the page to just show what I had in mind instead of trying to hard to explain. I made three changes from what is on the Wikipedia page at this moment.
My requested changes to consider to the section:
1) I cut the sentences apart to make it easier to see what is happening (could they be recombined into one paragraph after? there isn't much).
2) I moved the order, like moving the first sentence to the last sentence, mostly, and also slightly changing the order of the first three sentences (I had to copy a reference to do that, I don't believe that breaks any guidelines however)
2) I very slightly altered the wording on some of them, so they made more sense. For example, the placement of "government": it seems when the Government order took place has been misconstrued in the current telling, since the full government shutdown was in place on March 23, 2020 when Parkdean also entirely closed its parks. Is it possible to remove the government order phrase from the current section, and instead add it in to sentence about March 23, with that sentence also moved to the end of the paragraph so it is less confusing?
==COVID-19 pandemic response==
During the COVID-19 pandemic in the United Kingdom, Parkdean was criticized for not shutting down its travel parks during a time when the government was advising citizens to avoid non-essential travel.[1]
On 20 March 2020, Parkdean Resorts shut down all bars, restaurants, and complexes in its parks, but did not close the parks.[2]
At the time, Parkdean stated to the press that the caravans are standalone and separate from each other with 70% privately owned, and there was "no instruction or logic to evicting people who are enjoying the fresh air in their own space".[3]
People in multiple locations were concerned that the parks staying open would place pressure on sparsely populated areas that were already struggling to obtain food supplies[4] and that it would further spread the virus from metropolitan areas to remote rural areas that were poorly equipped to deal with it.[5]
There was concern that an influx of seasonal population to sparsely populated rural holiday locations had the potential to cripple their local health services at a time when they were very vulnerable.[6]
On 23 March 2020, when the UK government announced a nationwide lockdown, the company closed its parks to the public, and announced plans to re-open to the public on 6 July.[7]

Request Edit on 28th of July, 2022
[edit]This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. |
Hello, I had 3 small requests about the history section, and then a stat to update.
1) Could the Covid-19 section be deprecated and made into a subsection of the history section? I'm ambivalent if dates are added (2020-2022).
2) Could the "merge" section be renamed "merger?"
3) Add this, or a shorter version?
Adding to £70 million invested in 2021, in April 2022 Parkdean announced another £70 million investment into its parks, for a total of a £140 million. The investment plan was expanded to include "850 new caravans and lodges, new developments at 16 parks and refreshed and upgraded chalets and lodges."[1]
4) Also, could the number of parks be updated? The company's official website lists 66, right now (there are three places it is at a different # on the Wiki page: the infobox, the lead, and the holiday parks section).
There are currently 66 Parkdean Resorts located across the United Kingdom.[2]
Thank you! Jessica.N.Park (talk) 00:20, 29 July 2022 (UTC) Jessica.N.Park (talk) 00:20, 29 July 2022 (UTC)

- Done Hi. I've taken care of most here, using my own language for the investment bit, and rearranging the history section to reflect WP:CRIT. PK650 (talk) 03:41, 31 August 2022 (UTC)

[edit]Part of an edit requested by an editor with a conflict of interest has been implemented. |
Hello, I was hoping to update the page with basic facts from the last year, and also streamline a messy section. They add a bit to the requests that @PK650: was kind enough to consider last July. Thank you! Jessica.N.Park (talk) 00:48, 13 September 2022 (UTC)
1) Could the line "There was concern that an influx of seasonal population to sparsely populated rural holiday locations had the potential to cripple their local health services at a time when they were very vulnerable" be removed for basically just repeating the sentence before it? Also, the two sentences before that are awkwardly conjoined, with an extra "and" at said conjunction. Could the "and" be replaced with "claimed"? Thanks!
3) Could employee # be updated in the infobox?
9,000 in peak season<ref>https://www.lancasterguardian.co.uk/health/coronavirus-heysham-caravan-park-donates-food-to-morecambe-bay-foodbank-2518660</ref>
2) Could this sentence be expanded with content mined from the same source?
In 2021 and 2022, Parkdean announced a number of park investments, for a total of £140 million. The investment plan included "850 new caravans and lodges," and developments at 16 parks.
Could it be expanded to:
