The parishes of Sweden (församlingar) are not only units of the Church of Sweden. They are also used for statistical purposes and as base units for the population register. These parishes cover the entire country and are still official subdivisions of municipalities. --Muniswede (talk) 21:14, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- Indeed. No units called "socknar" are used for statistics nowadays, however, as the article stated previously. Statistics are kept for parishes (församlingar) according to the boundaries in 2000 and according to the most recent boundaries. "Socken" has been used after 1863 to describe both religious, civil and cadastral parishes where they shared boundaries, but the "socken" boundaries were frozen when cadastral parishes were abolished, if not earlier (we should maybe avoid delving too deeply into that matter of discussion), and religious parishes have been split and merged even before 2000. //Essin (talk) 14:23, 7 July 2010 (UTC)
