"Cities other than London"
[edit]Two recent edits attempted to improve the third paragraph of the introduction. I've reverted both of them because they each destroyed the sense of the phrase (that is, got it wrong.)
The original objection was (firstly) to the use of the name "London" to refer to the city of London (as compared to Greater London). I don't see that as an important distinction when talking about Parish constables in the 17th century, and anybody could have followed the link for disambiguation, but I would have left the change if the change hadn't broken the facts.
The second part of the objection was that it linked to a "City of London Police" article, when the City of London Police force isn't directly relevant. I made that link because the history section in that article is directly relevant, and contains the information required at that point. Again, I would have left the change if it was an improvement, but it wasn't.
The second edit attempted to repair the damage done by the first edit. Again, well meaning, but lost the information required at that point referring to English cities in general.
Both of you are welcome to try again: if you modify the paragraph again, it should retain the information that cities, other than the City of London, were reformed with metropolitan police forces, and a link to the information regarding the different situation in the City of London — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.224.212.199 (talk) 01:44, 10 June 2019 (UTC)
