Question

[edit]

I came up with a question while creating this and another Wiki article Classical college. These two English articles are based on the corresponding French Wiki articles, with passages translated directly from the original content. How does reference works in this case? There seems to be no way of pointing to the French Wiki from the English Wiki. If the sources are already quoted in the French Wiki, do I need to quote them a second time in the English Wiki? (For those contents translated from the French Wiki, I didn't double-check the references. I simply assumed that the reference was already checked by someone.) Hi @Lindapolytope: - if I understand your question correctly, the answer is that English Wikipedia would need/want references duplicated in this article, because English Wikipedia would want the reference anglified to whatever degree is possible, and to make it a bit easier on a reader who wanted to check into the references (ie, rather than finding the link to the French article and hopping back & forth). I hope this helps a bit (?) PKT(alk) 18:35, 13 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
