What is it called when a part of your body temporarily falls asleep?
[edit]I could not see the condition of "when your arm falls asleep" because you were laying on it, or "when you leg falls asleep" because you stood in a weird position (temporary paralysis?) in this article, and tried to find it in Wikipedia for almost half an hour, including searching on Google, and it seems this should be linked in at least the "see also" section with some sort of note "body part falling asleep" next to it (or a note stating that it is NOT paralysis, since some people think it is). I would link it myself, but I seriously can't find what this condition is officially called. Doubleg 23:07, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Response: It is usually called a paresthesia, which is generally thought to be a sensory symptom.
- I think there should be some mention of it here, paresthesia is numbness or tingling, which is part of what happens when a limb "falls asleep", but a brief paralysis often happens when the limb is "asleep" for a fairly long time.--RLent 14:46, 9 October 2007 (UTC)
- Actually, I think the word you're looking for is Obdormition. Paresthesia is just the pins-and-needles feeling. WhatamIdoing (talk) 05:06, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
