This article needs work.
[edit]Is this simply to become a listing of paradoxical reactions? If so, then nearly every drug could be listed since there is most likely some patient that has a paradoxical reaction to it. Or certain drugs which under non-ideal situations could act paradoxically (like anti-arrhythmic drugs which could paradoxically cause MIs). This article is important, however it may need to be rethought and reorganized. --98.70.56.46 (talk) 00:55, 31 October 2011 (UTC)
Genetics
[edit]I'd like to see information about the role of genetics in paradoxical reactions included in this article. — C M B J 03:01, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
Needs More Recent Research
[edit]The resources at the bottom (most of them) are abysmally old. 23 and 24 year old research on the paradoxical reactions to anti-depressants? One source is from 1948, another from 1975, and still another from 1980. Medical research moves fast. Sources no older than 10 years would be much better on this topic - ideally, no older than five years, and there is plenty out there.
The constant citation of a few odd case reports to substantiate ADHD-specific paradoxical responses is not appropriate
[edit]A few editors have added to the page relating to the supposed paradoxical effect of stimulants in ADHD. Most have based their edits on controlled research and preclinical studies demonstrating a lack of true ADHD-specific response with regards to behavioral effects at therapeutic doses. However, there is are a persistent string of edits citing a single case report which mentions, in passing, that the authors have observed paradoxical effects in ADHD patients relating to caffeine (without comparison to non-ADHD). No citation is provided, and this is not the main call to action of the article. Observed paradoxical reactions to anesthesia are.
Perhaps there is a paradoxical response specific to ADHD, even if the current research we have on amphetamine and methylphenidate suggest otherwise, but research to support this is non-existent, so anything more than acknowledgment of this belief shouldn't be included in the article.
