Wrong title
[edit]I'm not yet convinced this is a notable caste but if the article is to be retained then it probably should be under the caste name of Alavan because Pannaiyar is actually a title and one that I don't think is exclusively used by the Alavan.
We really could do with finding sources that do not come from the Anthropological Survey of India because its research methods are sometimes zero (eg: they plagiarise old Raj sources), and often are not particularly critical even when greater than that. One of the big failings in Indian caste research has been the willingness to accept whatever name is given to the researcher as being a genuine caste community. This is one reason why there are at least a thousand more castes today than there were a century ago and yet they pretty much all claim descent from a deity and from rulers, warriors etc in the distant past that precedes their own actual existence (clearly a logical impossibility). - Sitush (talk) 19:33, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
And before we move it, a read of Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Alavan might be appropriate. - Sitush (talk) 19:38, 6 August 2020 (UTC)
