Pannaipuram

As such there is no story about the origin of name. Pannai means basically the farmland and puram means village or small town. It does have lots of fertile lands and until 1990s the communities in the village were very busy with agriculture and related activities. After that the ground water level has gone down drastically and most of the people left cultivation. As it is in the foot (eastside) of western ghats it is hard to receive the south-west monsoon rain during that season. This blocks the wind movement in this area and this area could not get the advantage of this monsoon. It is understood that lots of people tried upto 250 feet down and could not find water. During the aggressive farming the crops cultivated in this area includes all types of vegetables such as Tomato, Brinjal(egg plant), Ladies Finger (Okra), all types of beans, Sugarcane, Coconut etc. There were some milk co-operative societies running during those days. All have been stopped now and the village is drawing even the drinking water from a nearby town called Uthamapalayam, where the Mullai river is running. During 1990s the government then planned to revive this area by bringing the water from the Periyar Dam itself, so that it will substantiate the ground water level. There are small reservoirs in Pannaipuram to store the water. But the next government was not interested in continuing the project work. This project, in fact was planned during the British rule as '18th cannal project'.

As it was mentioned in the original article the literacy rate is higher than the national average. There is one Higher secondary school and one middle school and three primary schools in the village. As the teacher parent realtionship is very good there are lots of encouragement given to the students studying in these schools. The parents realise that the only way to the good future is getting out of this village and find out a job in other towns or cities.

The village has well built drainage system and metal roads have been layed all through the streets. This is well connected with other towns and villages through quality metal roads.

In 2005 they installed tranceiver towers for the cellular network and the communication with the outer world is very much enhanced by this. During 1980 there were less than 10 phone connection available through the nearby Kombai exchange. This has improved dramatically and over 200 cellular and landline connections are there now.

There are few small partime doctor clinics are functioning besides the regular 10 bed hospital. It is within the raech of the government Primary health center (within one kilometer) and veterinary hospital as well.

As there is a quality community hall is available for functions like marriage lots of nearby villages and towns are using this and by that way there is a additional business for the people living in this village.

The near by village called Mallingapuram. It is also had the same climates and situations mentioned above. One of the interesting thing in the village is One temple is placed in

the east side of the village named "Mallingar Swamy Temple". Near to the temple one stream is going on.The people around the temple are will come to that temple. I hear the temple is built by some one kingdom I don't know his name. Over 1000 of people living there.

The village has one primary school called "Sri RenganathaSwamy Primary School" and it serves that village students.
