Flight 845
[edit]This was Flight 845. The "26" was added to the flight number since it originated on the 26th of the month. It was another way of identifying flights in real time when more than one was aloft with the same flight number. Pan Am flights often were in their later stages (such as arriving in the South Pacific) when another with the same flight number would begin on the U.S. west coast. Airlines do the same today, but it's not visible to customers. United often adds a letter to their flight numbers, such as UAL 863D.70.253.94.232 (talk) 00:29, 12 July 2009 (UTC)
