GA Review

Hey, Basement. It looks like you've done some pretty good work here, from what I see; although the article in itself is going to remain short, it is not at all far from GA status. My examination has produced the following as restraints that keep the article from promotion:
- In my honest opinion, I think that the purpose of the lead is to provide an overview of the article, and I see material that is not explained in said article. Specifically, the second paragraph of the lead is what caught my attention. Should there not be a seperate section explaining this occurrence, and then something shorter of mention in the lead instead?
- The note in the lead that explains the presence of four athletes from the Sydney and Athens games should be cited.
- I think that the sentence "The other members of the team, who marched in the parade were; sprinters Peoria Koshiba and Jesse Tamangrow; swimmer Amber Sikosang Yobech, who would participate in the 50-metres freestyle; and Greco-Roman wrestler Florian Skilang." in the Opening and closing ceremonies section is really cumbersome; it should be broken down and reworded.
- The flag bearer section in the infobox should also include Yobech.
- The sentence below the table in the Swimming section should be cited. If this happened throughout the Olympics games at Beijing, then there should be something that supports it. I think it could be reworded to become more clear, because it was a bit difficult for me to grasp at first.
- What exactly do you mean when you refer to "the team" in the lead? Do you mean the nation as a whole? If so, this should be made clear. (Yes, I know, it's obvious if you read around the box. I really don't mean to be a dick here)
Well, in general, these are really minor things. A few tweaks, and I think it'll be ready for GA. I'll watchlist this page, and you can cross out and comment on the review as you work.
Thanks, --Starstriker7(Dime algoor see my works) 02:27, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestions. I've moved the paragraph on tv coverage from the lede to a new section on media coverage (similar to that used for larger nations articles such as Great Britain), its a bit short but makes the most sense. The only reference for the number of athletes at previous games are the official reports so i've provided a link to the relevant page of the LA84 foundation (which produces them) as the citation (to actual count the number you'd have to read through the whole reports). Other than that all the changes have been made I think. Basement12 (T.C) 04:50, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- Nice work. All of my comments have been addressed, but I hope you don't mind if I call in a mentor to see if anything more needs to be done. I'll find one that can be of service most quickly. --Starstriker7(Dime algoor see my works) 05:58, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- No problem, there's no rush. Basement12 (T.C) 11:49, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

For your first review, Starstriker7, not too bad! I feel the article was a little on the short side, but since Palau's team was not very big, that can be overlooked. I only have two problems which are relatively minor. It will be up to your discretion, Starstriker7, to see to it that they are addressed
- In the "Wrestling" section : "Both athletes received byes in the first round." My problem is with the use of the word "byes." If it is part of wrestling jargon, then you should explain what it is; if it is a colloquialism, it should be replaced with another more formal word.
- If you could find a source to cite the statement "Palau's Olympic team was one of the 117 that won no medals at the Games," that would be good. I don't think it's anything majorly OR, but some editors might call you on that one.
Good job from both of you, Basement and Starstriker. Hope to see some good work from both of you. bibliomaniac15 21:27, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
- I would say that 'bye' in a sporting context is a very common term and one the majority of readers would probably recognise. Any explaination of it would be nothing more than a dictionary definition. The only way of sourcing the medal fact is to give the actual medal table, this would only show the 80ish countries that did win a medal though (i got 117 by subtracting the number of medal winning countries from the number of participating countires). If you think its not suitable for inclusion i have no problem with removing it (it's in no way essential). Basement12 (T.C) 18:17, 22 October 2008 (UTC)
- Concerning the "bye" speculation, I understand it may be implied, but some Wikipedians might be nitpicky about it. Just in case, I wikilinked it so any confused bystanders can decipher what it means from there.

- Besides that, I think you are good, then. I'll mark this one as a "Pass." --Starstriker7(Dime algoor see my works) 02:11, 24 October 2008 (UTC)
